Description The Emergency Manager is a vital member of the UCSF Enterprise Emergency Management team, reporting directly to the Director of Operations and interacting with staff at all levels across the organization. Working independently under limited direction, this position develops and maintains comprehensive Emergency Management programs within UCSF Health and across all UCSF. The Emergency Manager serves as the first point of contact during real-world emergencies, supporting senior leadership and various response teams, including the Hospital Incident Management Teams (HIMT) and other response and/or coordinating teams. This position represents Enterprise Emergency Management at internal and external meetings, participates in daily leadership safety huddles, and engages in various committees and workgroups. This role requires strong project and program management skills to ensure the timely completion of projects and action items. Responsibilities include leading training sessions and exercises, serving as the technical expert during emergencies, and presenting corresponding documentation such as After-action Reports and Improvement Plans. The Emergency Manager facilitates meetings and presentations to multidisciplinary groups both virtually and in-person, maintains disaster supply inventories and training records, and participates in hospital safety rounding. Additionally, this position involves training UCSF teams for planned and unplanned events, assessing and revising emergency management plans and policies, and supporting emergency activations and command centers. Collaboration with the Enterprise Emergency Management team members is essential to meet organizational goals and objectives, including coordination of mass notification communications. The role demands timely decision-making, adaptive leadership, and high-level communication skills to work effectively across all disciplines. Bachelor’s degree in emergency management, Homeland Security, Healthcare Administration, Public Health, or related field(s) or four years of relevant experience. Certification: FEMA 100, 200, 700, 800. Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with co-workers and department personnel. Ability to manage and continue to make progress on multiple projects concurrently. Advanced analytical and organizational skills to organize, prioritize, and manage the successful completion of projects within budget and time constraints. Ability to understand and maintain UCSF’s ability to comply with all laws, regulations, accreditation standards, and hospital policies and procedures. Ability to work onsite four days a week in San Francisco. Preferences: Master’s degree in emergency management, Homeland Security, Healthcare Administration, Public Health, or related field(s). Certifications: State and/or IAEM Certified Emergency Manager/Associate Emergency Manager and/or AHEPP Healthcare Emergency Management Certification (H-cEM B, P, or M). Demonstrated leadership skills and experience in a healthcare setting are desirable.
