There are several tasks a PACU nurse needs to perform in a post-operative unit such as guiding patients to consciousness and assisting them in handling personal needs in the first few hours after surgery.</span></p><p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">A PAT / PreOp / PACU nurse is important not just for their role as a guide in the outcome of a surgery but also for handling medication administration duties which are very important at this stage. Even though most patients do not remember the PAT / PreOp / PACU nurse that attended to their needs, they play an imperative role in helping patients start on the road to recovery.</span></p><p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\"><strong>Position Responsibilities</strong></span></p><p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">Pre-admissions Testing Nurse Duties:</span></p><ul style=\"list-style-type: square;\"><li style=\"font-family: tahoma, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">Pre-admission testing nurse or PAT nurse duties include overseeing intake, during which you perform an initial physical assessment and interview the patient to obtain their medical history.&nbsp;</li><li style=\"font-family: tahoma, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">PAT duties include performing any tests the surgeon has ordered, such as an EKG, and may be expected to draw blood for lab work.&nbsp;</li><li style=\"font-family: tahoma, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">PAT nurses are often among the first people patients deal with as they prepare to have surgery.
