If you require accommodations at any stage of the recruitment process, please let us know by contacting [email protected] PURPOSE OF THE POSITION: The Canadian Sport Institute Pacific (CSI Pacific) is seeking a Sport Physiologist / Performance Lab coordinator to join our Vancouver campus (located at UBC). This role will oversee the technical operations of CSI Pacific’s High-Performance Labs in both Vancouver and Whistler. This role, in collaboration with the CSI Pacific physiology team, will provide physiology services to National and Provincial Sport Organizations and Performance Nation clients, and will support the research and innovation projects in which CSI Pacific is engaged. Given CSI Pacific's location on the UBC campus, there is potential for collaboration with the university on applied physiology research and, where appropriate, opportunities to contribute to the teaching of applied physiology courses — supporting the next generation of high-performance sport scientists. The ideal candidate brings a strong background in sport physiology performance solution delivery and the ability to manage both the complex and routine aspects of lab operations with energy and precision. This position will report to the Lead, Sport Physiologist and work closely with the CSI Pacific physiology team and other health and performance services personnel. CORE STRATEGY: PERFORMANCE SERVICES: Fostering performance excellence through leadership, education, and evidence-based innovation in integrated sport science and sport medicine teams KEY DELIVERABLES & DUTIES: 1. Performance Lab Operations & Coordination Coordinate logistics for testing sessions, including scheduling, resource allocation, and equipment transport Perform routine maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting of lab equipment; develop and track TEMs/CVs Manage inventory and procurement of lab supplies in coordination with the Victoria Physiology Lab Maintain and update Standard Operating Procedures for lab methods and tests 2. Development, Delivery & Supervision of Physiology Programs Assist in the delivery of sport physiology assessments and testing protocols for designated sport partners and Performance Nation clients Analyze and interpret physiological test results and support performance data management, ensuring data is accurately recorded, stored, and reported in compliance with quality and privacy standards Communicate physiological test results and provide recommendations to coaches, athlete, and Performance Nation clients based on the results Monitor athletes in the DTE (daily training environment) Work with coaches to develop yearly training plans and schedule assessments accordingly Work with athletes to monitor or prepare for training or competition in different environmental conditions (hot/cold/altitude etc) Provide individual athlete and group education sessions (athletes, coaches and Performance Nation Clients) to meet sport objectives and/or sport performance gap analyses 3. CSI Pacific Physiology Department Duties Support mentorship of junior physiologist and occasional student interns in the lab setting. Participate in Physiology Team meetings and contribute to applied projects as capacity allows Liaise with CSI Pacific staff and broader Integrated Support Team members to facilitate coordinated service delivery Foster relationships with key stakeholders, sport partners, and vendors QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE: REQUIRED: Master’s in Exercise Physiology or a related human performance domain CSEP certified Clinical Exercise Physiologist CSEP High Performance Specialization (or the ability to attain within 1 year) Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers certification Minimum 3 years recent physiology lab experience working with athletes Experience working in an interdisciplinary, high-performance sport environment Class 5 driver’s license with access to a Class 5 vehicle DESIRABLE: Phlebotomy certification ISAK certification Level 1 or higher Sport Scientist Canada High Performance Certification Practitioner level or higher WHMIS and Bloodborne Pathogen certification Background as a coach and/or athlete KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES: REQUIRED: Demonstrable proficiency in anthropometric assessments (skinfolds, girths, and lengths), capillary blood sampling, and gas exchange analysis using a metabolic measurement system Ability to interpret graded exercise tests for intensity domain determination, fuel utilization, and aerobic training zone prescription Rigorous adherence to aseptic techniques Strong data literacy skills including database management and manipulation Experience performing and interpreting inferential statistics Experience visualizing, interpreting, and presenting athlete testing results Mechanically inclined with experience troubleshooting/repairing equipment Ability to work independently Ability to collaborate with others Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills Able to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a meticulous attention to detail DESIRABLE: Experience with spirometry, eucapnic voluntary hyperpnea and other tests of exercise-induced bronchospasm, hemoglobin mass measurement, sweat analysis, core temperature measurement, and hydration monitoring Experience programming languages (e.g. Python, LabView, etc.) Bilingualism (French/English) WORKING CONDITIONS: A variable schedule with some weekends, evenings and long work/testing days is required Primary work location is the CSI Pacific Vancouver campus, however travel between the 3 CSI Pacific campuses (Victoria, Vancouver, Whistler) is expected (travel expenses will be paid by CSI Pacific). The candidate may need to spend extended periods of time in Whistler during spring-summer testing blocks (lodging will be provided). Additional off-site work may also be required.
