About Camp Bette Perot: Camp Bette Perot, our equestrian camp, offers sleepaway camp for girls ages 7-16. We serve approximately 150 campers per week from a variety of racial/ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds. Camp community life includes group living, shared meals, daily activities, kapers (chores), and rest. Campers come to camp independently and are cared for by Counselors. Camp is located 20 minutes from the small town of Palestine and 2 hours from the large city of Dallas. The Nurse work season runs from the end of May to the end of July 2026, with some positions available for more limited periods of time. The Nurse work week is typically 12 hours per day for 6 days per week. Job summary: The Camp Nursing Crew is responsible for supporting a healthy, safe experience for all campers and staff by implementing nursing care in our overnight summer camp program during June and July and by providing administrative service. The Camp Nursing Crew will follow camp processes to oversee the physical and mental wellbeing of campers and staff for the best camp experience possible. The position reports to the Camp Director. Specific roles available: Nurse Leader (age 21+): Serve as nursing crew with additional leadership responsibilities. Accountable for overall success of nursing operations for up to 225 campers and staff, including leading a team of up to 3 Nursing Crew members. Ensure the appropriate level of care and electronic documentation of all care provided. Maintain regular communication with Camp Director about operational needs. May have an opportunity to work with nursing students from local colleges to obtain their observation hours. Must possess current licensure and at least one full year of experience as a registered nurse, nurse practitioner, physician, or physician assistant. Must commit to working the entire camp season. Nursing Crew (age 21+): Support team in effective nursing operations by carrying out the above tasks, as assigned by Nurse Leader. Must possess current licensure in the healthcare field (nursing, medicine, EMT, mental health counselor) or be enrolled in an accredited healthcare education program (e.g., nursing, counseling, or medical student). Must possess current certification in first aid/CPR/AED. Nursing crew commits to one or more work weeks, with preference given to applicants who can commit to a greater number of weeks or to the entire summer. Administer all camper medications on schedule for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and bedtime Support camper and staff physical and mental health and promote interest in basic self-care and sanitation Evaluate healthcare needs and provide first aid care and ongoing observation for sick and injured campers and staff, including seeking appropriate external medical assistance as needed Carry out healthcare procedures and standing orders as designated by camp physician on call to provide healthcare recommendations for campers and staff Consult with camp management on physical and mental health needs of campers and staff, including determining level of crisis, recommending course of action, communicating with parents/guardians, and determining follow-up steps with affected campers and staff Document all physical and mental healthcare provided and maintain records for daily treatment logs, accident/incident reports, insurance claims, and health department reports At the direction of the Camp Director – contact parents of campers and staff who are under the age of 18 as necessary Assist in care of campsite facilities, equipment, and supplies, including managing resources wisely Practice all camp safety standards and emergency procedures and uphold them with others Adhere to camp schedule and remain physically accessible and responsive via two-way radio Work independently and as part of a team to meet camp program and operation needs and to implement solutions to problems that arise Participate in staff trainings and meetings as requested Qualifications Minimum requirements: Certification and experience in first aid/CPR/AED Current licensure and at least one full year of experience as a registered nurse, nurse practitioner, physician, or physician assistant (Nurse Leader) Current healthcare licensure, or enrolled in accredited healthcare education program (Nursing Crew) Experience with electronic medical records and keen attention to detail (Nurse Leader) Ability to remain calm, execute decisions in emergency situations, and handle confrontational situations professionally Ability to live, eat, teach, and play respectfully and fruitfully with diverse staff and campers all day, with limited privacy and personal time Willingness to live in camp setting with exposure to wildlife, including bugs, spiders, and snakes Willingness to be active outdoors all day in variable weather conditions (high heat over 100°F/38°C, high humidity, rain, wind, possible tornadoes) and to walk extensively around camp Willingness to role model respect, positivity, smiling, cheerfulness, kindness, patience, honesty, inclusion, good mental hygiene, and accountability and to self-regulate emotions respectfully in a variety of circumstances Willingness to listen to, learn from, and cooperate with others Willingness to embrace a simple living environment while staying on camp Ability to work long hours all day and all week with possible need to respond to campers / emergencies overnight (staff get personal breaktime each day) Ability to complete full term (all weeks) of camp agreement Demonstrate and promote a climate of courtesy, respect and professionalism to coworkers, the volunteers served by this council, and others with whom this job puts them in contact Upon employment, employee must register as an adult member in the Girl Scout organization and subscribe to the tenets of the Girl Scout Promise and Law Attendance is an essential job requirement defined as having regular, consistent, reliable, punctual and predictable
