Description Savannah River National Laboratory is seeking a mid-career engineer for the Advanced Manufacturing & Design group to lead initiatives related to Machining Technology. The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge and experience in machining technologies, a strong commitment to quality, and a passion for innovation. This role is crucial in driving our manufacturing excellence and continuous improvement initiatives. Responsibilities Collaborate with equipment development engineers and provide feedback on design for manufacturability Enhance machining efficiency through digital engineering initiatives involving CAD/CAM Work with Machinist Technicians on the recapitalization of machine tools including tracking of procurements and installation Lead effort to modernize software tool for tracking shop requests Serve as technical point of contact for external machining requests Represent SRNL at various working groups related to advanced manufacturing Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field Minimum of 7 years of experience in advanced manufacturing engineering role focused on machining technology For ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, US Citizenship is Legally Required Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field Minimum of 12 years of experience in advanced manufacturing engineering role focused on machining technology Proficiency in CAD/CAM software Strong understanding of machining principles Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team Strong communication and interpersonal skills Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities Organization Weapons Production Technology (WPT) is a world leader in tritium fuel cycles with a strong industrial partnership, including most private companies working on fusion research. WPT also leads the Tokomak Exhaust System Development Project for the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor. The staff of 300 in this vibrant organization are leading the frontiers of tritium effects on materials, hydrogen science, fusion related research, plutonium metallurgy, sensing and metrology, advanced engineering, and advanced manufacturing.
