Founded in 1977 as a spinoff of Oak Ridge National Laboratory and the University of Tennessee, AMS has nearly 50 years of experience developing innovative testing technologies and engineering solutions that help nuclear facilities maintain safe and reliable instrumentation and control (I&C) and related systems. What We Do AMS supports nuclear facilities worldwide with specialized expertise in years in the areas of instrumentation and control (I&C) system testing, digital I&C qualification, EMI/RFI troubleshooting, cable aging management, nuclear instrumentation system troubleshooting, wireless technology implementation, rod control system testing, online monitoring for condition-based maintenance, and custom data acquisition equipment development. Our engineers work across all U.S. nuclear power plants and many in Europe and Asia as well as research reactors and national security installations to ensure systems perform safely, reliably, and in full compliance with regulatory requirements. What It’s Like to Work Here At AMS, you’ll join a collaborative team of experts across nuclear, electrical, mechanical, computer, and materials engineering. We invest heavily in research and development, encourage creativity in problem-solving, and provide hands-on opportunities to contribute from day one. Many employees build long careers here because they’re able to learn continuously, take on diverse technical challenges, and work in an environment guided by teamwork, respect, and shared purpose. AMS is seeking an Electrical Engineer to support engineering testing, troubleshooting, data analysis, hardware support, and technical documentation for critical systems used in nuclear power plants and other demanding environments. This is a hands-on engineering role for someone who wants to work with real equipment, real plant data, and real customer problems. AMS engineers support laboratory testing, field measurements, instrumentation system evaluations, equipment troubleshooting, data acquisition, hardware and software verification, and engineering reports. Training will be provided in AMS methodologies, proprietary systems, testing standards, nuclear industry expectations, and quality assurance processes. The goal of this position is to develop an electrical engineer who can grow into a trusted technical contributor capable of supporting AMS’s core engineering and testing services with professionalism, accuracy, and accountability. What You’ll Do Analyze real-world plant data, laboratory measurements, and electrical test results. Support testing and troubleshooting of instrumentation and control systems used in nuclear power plants. Assist with data acquisition, signal measurement, equipment setup, and analysis for commercial testing services, research projects, and engineering evaluations. Perform laboratory and field testing activities.  Prepare equipment for laboratory testing and plant trips, including configuration, verification, documentation, checkout, and return to proper storage. Participate in on-site work at nuclear plants and customer facilities as needed, which may include field measurements, testing support, equipment setup, and troubleshooting. Assist with troubleshooting efforts when equipment, systems, or test results do not initially meet expected criteria. Support hardware development and equipment improvement activities, including prototype assembly, hardware testing, equipment troubleshooting, and documentation updates. Support quality assurance activities, including hardware and software verification, test plan execution, documentation completion, and adherence to structured engineering workflows. Draft and refine technical reports, trip reports, test documentation, and supporting engineering records with close attention to clarity, accuracy, and applicable requirements. Learn and apply applicable industry standards, test methods, customer requirements, and AMS procedures. Contribute improvement ideas that strengthen AMS testing methods, equipment, documentation, and overall service quality. Who We’re Looking For A curious and proactive learner who wants to master new technical areas, tools, standards, and test methods. A hands-on engineer who enjoys working with equipment, measurements, software, data, and real-world systems. A detail-oriented professional who understands that documentation accuracy matters in safety-critical applications. A critical thinker with a practical problem-solving mindset and the judgment to ask good questions when needed. A clear communicator who can represent AMS professionally with internal teams, customers, and plant personnel. A reliable and personally accountable team member who follows through on assigned work and takes ownership of results. A collaborative engineer who works effectively with technicians, engineers, managers, and customers in a respectful, high-performing environment. Someone who wants to build a long-term technical career in a specialized engineering company serving the nuclear industry. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related technical discipline Strong analytical and problem-solving skills Interest in hands-on testing, instrumentation, controls, electrical systems, data acquisition, hardware, or applied engineering Ability to follow structured engineering procedures and work within a quality-assured environment Strong attention to detail in technical documentation, data analysis, test planning, and report preparation Clear written and verbal communication skills Willingness to travel to customer facilities and nuclear plants as needed This position involves work under U.S. Department of Energy contracts and requires access to nuclear facilities. As a result, U.S. citizenship is required to meet federal compliance and security-access regulations. Preferred Qualifications Experience or coursework related to instrumentation and controls, circuits, signal processing, electrical measurements, data acquisition, power systems, controls, or hardware development. Experience with test equipment such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, signal generators, spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, data acquisition systems, or similar measurement tools. Exposure to laboratory testing, field testing, systems integration, nuclear power, aerospace, defense, automotive, manufacturing, or other regulated technical environments. Experience with prototype assembly, hardware troubleshooting, equipment repair, circuit testing, or hardware documentation. Familiarity with EMC testing, EMI/RFI troubleshooting, or related standards such as MIL-STD-461 or IEC 61000 is a plus, but not required.
