Job Title: Teen Services Specialist (20 hsr./Non-Exempt/Part-time)
Location: Karl Road Branch
Starting Pay Range: $21.49 – $28.89 hourly (commensurate with experience)

About the Position:
Responsible for mentoring and instructing 12-17 year olds in applying creativity through the use of tools and technology. The position also develops and delivers quality programs and informal engagements aligned with CML’s Young Minds Strategy, designed to help youth establish the foundation for a successful life. Collaborates with location staff to plan schedule and offerings of workshops and themed projects.
Position Schedule
Monday - Friday - 2pm-6pm or 3pm-7pm
What You’ll Do:
Proactively provides a high level of customer service by engaging youth in usage of library resources, activities and programs. Creates a safe, welcoming environment that balances a fun atmosphere, engaging activities and relationship building, while supporting youth development and learning. Instructs and supports students ages 12-17 in both one-on-one and group situations with technology and artistic tools. Answers customer questions and provides customer service to all teens. Makes referrals by locating appropriate sources of information using a variety of tools and resources. Critiques student work using online tools. Designs and leads workshops for youth based on local musical interests, i.e., recording, editing, mixing songs and videos. Supports volunteer and Volunteen activities including orienting, training and scheduling in the teen space. Maintains personal skills and knowledge through engagement with library trainings, reviewing resources and professional development conversations with other youth services staff members. Utilizes computer applications and library equipment, maintains current knowledge of system wide and location specific procedures, processes, policies, operations, and technology. Supports library policies and procedures, including the Code of Conduct, by following up with customers when necessary; alerts Security Officer and/or manager about suspicious behavior and similar risks to safety and security. Facilitates sharing of students’ work and ideas across the lab and department, celebrating and highlighting student success. Documents student attendance and learning as needed. Works as a team with other Teen Services Specialists, location staff and volunteers to mentor teens. Performs additional duties as assigned including serving on task forces, committees, etc. Minimum Qualifications:
Associate’s degree or two (2) years of completed coursework required. 1-3 years’ experience in one of the following areas: video production, graphic design, game design, music production, professional or technical arts. 2-3 years’ experience working in a mentoring/training/teaching capacity. Ability to express self effectively and concisely, both orally and in writing. Working knowledge of libraries. Ability to operate library technology including personal computer, email, software programs (i.e. Windows/Microsoft Office) and other job-related equipment and systems. Expertise in PC and MAC operating systems, common graphic and video file types, file conversion tools, and Office suite. Expertise in at least one area and familiarity with all the following software: graphic editing and manipulation software (e.g. Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator), video editing software (e.g. iMovie, Final Cut Pro), audio multitracking software (Garage Band, Logic Pro or equivalent), familiarity with computer peripherals used in media production (storage devices and media, cameras, scanners). Ability to utilize reliable transportation to promptly report to job assignment and other locations, per job requirements. Working Conditions and Physical Demands
The work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, meeting and training rooms, libraries, and residences or commercial vehicles (e.g., use of safe workplace practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, observance of fire regulations and traffic signals, and/or working in moderate outdoor weather conditions).
Work requires occasional lifting or pushing of up to 20 lbs. and the frequent lifting or pushing of up to 10 lbs.
