We expect all members of our team, new and veteran alike, to advance the ultimate goal of providing an exceptional campus environment by succeeding in these three critical areas.</span></p><p><br /><b><span>Purpose of Position:</span></b><br /> </p><p><span>Maintains University Grounds and Landscaping</span><br /> </p><p><b><span>Duties and Responsibilities:</span></b></p><p><br /><span>● Must possess a general knowledge of flowers, shrubs, and trees commonly grown in.</span><br /><span>● California and possess the knowledge and ability to maintain plant material and turf in a neat and orderly condition.</span><br /><span>● Recognizes plant diseases, pests, and general conditions of plant life and performs methods to correct such conditions including the application of fertilizers and pesticides.</span><br /><span>● Safely operates, cleans, and cares for hand and power tools, such as edger, blower, mower, chain saw, aerator, chipper, man lift, rot-o-tiller, vacuum, fork lift, hedge trimmer, and string edger.</span><br /><span>● Possess a good understanding of the personal safety equipment required for each piece of equipment.</span><br /><span>● Operates manual irrigation systems and performs minor irrigation repairs (including nozzle and head replacements).</span><br /><span>● Landscaped areas, sidewalks, and parking lots are to be kept clean of debris and litter.</span><br /><span>● Landscaped areas are to be kept free of weeds by means of herbicides and/or hand cultivation.</span><br /><span>● Replaces damaged turf and plants.</span><br /><span>● Transplants flowers, shrubs and trees.</span><br /><span>● Installs soil amendments and header boards for new plantings.</span><br /><span>● Makes recommendations for plant selections, maintenance methods and designs.</span><br /><span>● Performs manual labor as required for various irrigation and landscape projects.</span><br /><span>● Performs furniture moves and furniture deliveries, set-ups, and pick-ups for both indoor and outdoor events.</span></p><p><br /><b><span>Qualifications:</span></b></p><p><br /><span>● Four (4) years of experience in landscape, maintenance, and demonstrated skill in tasks described above are required.</span><br /><span>● Must possess a valid California driver’s license.</span><br /><span>● Be able to pass a physical examination for pesticide respirator use.</span><br /><span>● Preference will be given to applicants who have completed recognized courses in landscape</span><br /><span>maintenance.</span><br /><span>● Works under general supervision, and also, independently, as well as with the entire crew.</span><br /><span>● Ability to follow job-related oral and written instructions in English and keep written records and perform simple computer data input.</span><br /><span>● Ability to perform basic mathematics.</span><br /><span>● Knowledge of relevant safety regulations is required.</span><br /><span>● Ability to lift and move moderately heavy objects, up to 65 lbs. safely.</span><br /><span>● Frequent kneeling and bending of knees and back is required.</span><br /><span>● Able to work at elevated heights by means of a ladder, extension ladder or man-lift.</span><br /> </p><p><span>Reasonable accommodations will be made to facilitate the performance of this work by persons with physical or mental impairments.
