    "description": "<h2>Overview</h2>\n<p>The <strong>Senior Vessel Operator</strong> is a<strong> USCG licensed</strong> operator who operates and supports NV5’s hydrographic survey vessels, ranging in size from 21ft – 75ft. This position requires a high level of organization, previous experience in vessel operations management with demonstrated leadership skills to navigate safely. The Senior Vessel Operator coordinates all maintenance associated with the vessel, shipyard repairs, shop and facility assistance, and mobilization and demobilization of survey projects, with the Vessel Master. This role is key to maintaining a strong safety culture on the vessel and ensure that all crew members are working safely and clearly understand their duties. The Senior Vessel Operator will report to the Director of Marine Operations. While the vessels are primarily located in Newport, NC, the Senior Vessel Operator will be expected to travel for an extended time based on the requirements of the project’s scope.</p>\n<p> </p>\n<p><strong>Work Setting:</strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li>Location is flexible:  NV5 Regional Offices or work from home considered</li>\n <li>Must be able to work 12 hours shifts and up to 21 consecutive days on a project. We value both heart and head, the diversity of our people, and their experiences because that is how we continue to grow as a leader in our industry and expand our individual and collective potential.</p>\n<p> </p>\n<h2>Responsibilities</h2>\n<ul>\n <li>Responsible for operating, assisting, and maintaining research vessels to support oceanographic function</li>\n <li>Leads deck operations</li>\n <li>Operates various vessel machinery and performs maintenance</li>\n <li>Ensure docking, undocking, and mooring is completed safely</li>\n <li>Ensures all pre-departure checklists, crew orientation, and safety drills are conducted and documented</li>\n <li>Housekeeping - Maintain an organized vessel with safe practices</li>\n <li>Follow all workplace and job safety procedures</li>\n <li>Complete safety certification as required</li>\n <li>Communicate operation and project information as required</li>\n <li>Enter maintenance work in the internal system as directed</li>\n <li>Perform other duties as required by the project team</li>\n <li>Ensure that all work is completed in accordance with Company safety policies</li>\n <li>Navigate the vessel safely</li>\n <li>Deploy and retrieve survey gear safely</li>\n <li>Conduct JSA safety meetings to ensure that all crew members are trained and aware of their duties and responsibilities</li>\n <li>Ensure required daily logs are documented and submitted in the company system</li>\n <li><p>Provide instructions and information to crew members, including Management system, Vessel Station Bill, Standing Orders, and all emergency response plans</p></li>\n <li><p>Conduct drills with all crew members </p></li>\n <li><p>Must meet USCG physical requirements</p></li>\n <li><p>Must be able to work 12 hours shifts and up to 21 consecutive days on a project. With a targeted hitch schedule of 16 days on and 12 days off</p></li>\n <li><p>Must be able to climb steep stairs, sit or stand for long periods of time and work in all weather conditions</p></li>\n</ul>\n<h2>Qualifications</h2>\n<p><strong>Required Qualifications:       </strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li>High School diploma or equivalent</li>\n <li>Basic computer skills include word, spreadsheets, emails, Gdrive, SharePoint, OneDrive, and navigation software</li>\n <li>Able to manage multiple priorities and tasks simultaneously</li>\n <li>Some marine experience on research vessels or equivalent</li>\n <li>Knowledge and ability to ensure adherence to Coast Guard rules and regulations, and other federal and local laws and regulations</li>\n <li>Basic working knowledge of all vessel’s systems and their proper maintenance: diesel engines, winches (hydraulic, electrical), fire suppression, communication, and navigational systems</li>\n</ul>\n<p><strong>Physical Requirements:</strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li>Ability to perform field work including travel, weekends, extended field missions, and the physical ability to lift objects over 50lbs</li>\n <li>Travel as needed and adhere to a non-traditional, 16 on, 12 off targeted work schedule</li>\n</ul>\n<p><strong>Certifications / Licenses:</strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li>Special licenses, registration, or certification USCG Master license (100 Gross Tons, Near Coastal, Great Lakes, Inland Waters—minimum)</li>\n <li>Valid driver's license - US Citizen  </li>\n <li>Hold or be capable and willing to obtain:\n  <ul>\n   <li>Valid TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential)</li>\n   <li>STCW or equivalent – First Aid, CPR</li>\n  </ul></li>\n</ul>\n<p><em>Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background check and drug screening.</em></p>\n<p> </p>\n<p><em>NV5 offers a competitive compensation and benefits package including medical, dental, life insurance, PTO, 401(k) and professional development/advancement opportunities.</em></p>\n<p> </p>\n<p><em>NV5 provides equal employment opportunities (EEO) to all applicants for employment without regard to race, color, religion, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, national origin, age, disability, genetic information, marital status, amnesty, or status as a covered veteran in accordance with applicable federal, state and local laws.
