Location: Pagosa Springs Medical Center – Pagosa Springs, CO
Position Highlight
Work in a dedicated oncology role with a weekday-only schedule—no weekends, no holidays—while guiding patients through every step of their cancer care journey.
Position Summary
Pagosa Springs Medical Center (PSMC) is seeking a compassionate and experienced Oncology Nurse Navigator to support patients throughout the cancer care continuum.
The Oncology Nurse Navigator serves as a clinical guide, advocate, and coordinator , helping patients navigate diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up care. This role works closely with providers, infusion staff, and external partners to ensure timely access to care, remove barriers, and improve the overall patient experience.
The ideal candidate is an experienced oncology nurse who is passionate about patient advocacy, education, and coordination of complex care in a clinic-based, multidisciplinary environment .
Schedule Highlights
Full-time (40 hours per week)
Weekday schedule – no weekends or holidays
No call requirement
Predictable, clinic-based workflow
Key Responsibilities
Patient Navigation & Care Coordination
Lead coordination of care from initial oncology referral through treatment and follow-up
Manage incoming oncology referrals
Serve as liaison between patients, caregivers, providers, and the care team
Facilitate record retrieval and documentation within the electronic health record
Connect patients with community resources, financial assistance, transportation, and support services
Coordinate imaging, biopsies, surgery, PET scans, and specialty consultations
Assist patients with prior authorizations (oral medications, infusion therapy, PET scans)
Advocate for patients at all levels of care
Clinical Responsibilities
Practice within RN scope as defined by the State of Colorado
Perform comprehensive patient assessments and nursing histories
Administer injections, IV therapy, chemotherapy/biotherapy per ONS guidelines
Perform IV insertions, PICC line and Port-a-Cath management
Perform phlebotomy and therapeutic phlebotomy
Administer blood transfusions per protocol
Monitor and manage infusion pumps
Apply evidence-based symptom management and patient education
Follow the Seven Rights of Medication Administration
Maintain strict adherence to National Patient Safety Goals
Complete accurate documentation in the electronic health record
Infusion Support
Assist with outpatient infusion services
Cross-train to effectively perform RN – Infusion duties
Maintain safe handling and administration of chemotherapeutic agents
Utilize ONS, NCCN, Lexicomp, and pharmacist resources to ensure patient safety

Qualifications
Education
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
BSN or MSN preferred but not required
Experience
Minimum three (3) years of hospital-based RN experience
Minimum one (1) year of Oncology experience
Infusion experience preferred
Oncology infusion experience preferred
Licensure & Certifications
Current Colorado RN license in good standing
Current AHA BLS certification
Current ACLS certification (or completion within 3 months of hire)
ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy Certification preferred
If not certified, must complete ONS Chemotherapy/Biotherapy Fundamentals within 60 days of hire and pursue certification within 30 months
Skills
Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills
Knowledge of oncology pathophysiology and treatment modalities
Proficiency in EHR documentation and oncology management software
Ability to work independently in a high-stress, fast-paced environment
Excellent communication and patient education skills
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
Outpatient hospital setting
Exposure to blood, bodily fluids, communicable diseases, radiation, and hazardous chemotherapeutic agents
Moderate to high stress with frequent interruptions
Medium work level (lifting 26–50 pounds; team lifting for heavier loads)
Frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting, and patient positioning
Compensation, Incentives & Schedule Overview
Base Compensation Range: $33.55 - $51.40 hourly, based on years of relevant experience. "Relevant experience" means relevant to the employee's responsibilities set forth in the job description as determined by the HR Manager, CAO, applicable department manager/director and applicable senior leader.
Starting Work Bonus: This position is eligible for a starting work bonus of up to $5,000. Eligibility, amount, and payment terms are subject to Pagosa Springs Medical Center’s compensation policies and may vary based on position, experience, and employment status. Bonus payments, if applicable, are typically issued after the employee has met required employment and service criteria.
Moving Expense Reimbursement: This position is eligible for a moving expense reimbursement of up to $3,000. Reimbursement is subject to Pagosa Springs Medical Center’s relocation policy and requires prior approval. Eligible expenses and reimbursement amounts may vary based on position and individual circumstances. Reimbursement is processed in accordance with established policy and applicable tax regulations.
Benefits: Benefits include generous paid time off, separate sick leave, health, dental, vision, life and AD&D insurance, long-term disability and option for short-term disability, and retirement plan with employer contribution.

Shift Type: Weekdays – Monday through Thursday with occasional Friday’s
