We welcome candidates who can contribute to the excellence of our academic community.</p>\n<h2>Description</h2>\n<p>KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: </p>\n<ul>\n <li>Independently performs a wide range of highly technical and complex research and laboratory tests and procedures. </li>\n <li>Devises highly specialized research procedures by applying a knowledge of advanced research techniques and equipment. </li>\n <li>Provides input to protocol development. </li>\n <li>Serves as a technical resource for other research personnel. </li>\n <li>Analyzes and interprets the results of studies. </li>\n <li>Investigates and recommends alternative approaches to improve the quality of results. </li>\n <li>Trains research staff in specialized procedures and theoretical concepts for unique tests. </li>\n <li>Recommends new equipment and supplies needed for specialized procedures. </li>\n <li>Provides input into the development of departmental goals and objectives. </li>\n <li>May assist in grant and other funding application preparation. </li>\n <li>Review literature for related research developments and techniques. </li>\n <li>Prepares written materials, charts and graphs on specialized techniques and research results for publication or presentation. </li>\n <li>Oversees quality assurance of research performed by others. </li>\n <li>Monitors the handling, storage and disposal of hazardous substances. </li>\n <li>Performs related responsibilities as required. </li>\n <li>Employees in this classification may be required to work with, take specific precautions against and/or be immunized against potentially hazardous agents.</li>\n</ul>\n<p>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: </p>\n<ul>\n <li>Bachelor's degree in a scientific field and four years of research experience, OR equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.</li>\n</ul>\n<p>ADDITIONAL JOB DETAILS:</p>\n<p>The Vega lab at Emory (<u>www.vegalab.org</u>) is seeking a Senior Research Specialist. </p>\n<p> </p>\n<p>The position entails molecular biology wet lab work (DNA and RNA extraction; library preparation and sequencing; qRT-PCR) using existing protocols, as well as protocol development and troubleshooting, for ongoing projects in host-microbiome and host-pathogen association in <em>Caenorhabditis elegans.</em> </p>\n<p> </p>\n<p>Applicants should have a bachelor's degree in biology or a related field, with wet lab experience in microbiology and molecular biology techniques; prior experience with <em>Caenorhabditis elegans</em> and/or low-template samples a plus, as is experience with handling and processing of sequencing data. </p>\n<p> </p>\n<p>This position will involve working closely with current lab personnel; communication skills are important, as is the ability to work independently or as part of a team.</p>\n<ul>\n <li>This is a three-year position supported by a non-federal foundation grant. </li>\n <li>The senior research specialist will be primarily responsible for wet lab experiments on bacterial and viral transmission in Caenorhabditis elegans, including data collection and basic analysis. </li>\n <li>Applicants should have a bachelor's degree in biology or a related field, with wet lab experience in microbiology and molecular biology techniques (DNA and RNA extraction; library preparation and sequencing; qRT- PCR); prior experience with Caenorhabditis elegans, flow cytometry, sequence analysis, and/or low-template samples a plus. </li>\n <li>Protocol development is part of this position; a successful candidate will be comfortable navigating the scientific literature and troubleshooting novel protocols.
