Description
The Environmental Engineer will report directly to the EHS Manager and be accountable for overseeing the site Environmental and procedures to ensure site compliance with necessary regulations. This function supports the daily operation of both Texas facilities (Laporte/Crosby) and will have accountability to the site management and operations teams to ensure all aspects of daily operation related to air, water, and solids waste management. The Environmental Engineer will work closely with the rest of the leadership team in the implementation of other site objectives as needed.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide support to plant personnel to ensure regulatory compliance with safety, transportation and environmental regulations (federal, state and local)
Monthly, annual, and ad-hoc reporting to regulatory bodies (e.g., DMRs, TSCA, SARA 311/312/313, NPDES, Title V, RCRA, RMP and other site-required programs), as well as close cooperation with such bodies with timely responses on permits, audits, and inquiries
Manage permit renewals (NSR, GCA, Stormwater, etc)
Coordinate compliance testing activities, including stack testing, RATA testing for boilers, stormwater sampling, RCRA metals testing, fugitive leak detection program, etc.
Ensure conformity with Responsible Care Management System (RCMS) requirements, maintain documentation supporting Responsible Care certification
Serve as point person for internal EHS audits and participate as necessary in external audits (industry / OSHA)
Support PSSR and MOC processes
Support investigation of all environmental incidents, serving as the Environmental SME for Crosby/Laporte facilities.
Log incidents into Frontline to maintain compliance and support trending/learning.
Participate in the Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) and Mutual Aid Agency (e.g. CIMA/MAMBI) as needed to support community emergency planning and coordination.
Manage emergency plan submission to local authorities.
Providing unit level support for the maintenance of IH exposure assessments, exposure monitoring and communication of IH exposure records
Manage all procedures, procedure reviews and training related to the EHS Manual.
Develop and maintain EHS training documentation; facilitate training as needed; and maintain records of training, safety meetings, and compliance activities.
Work closely with other ALTIVIA EHS resources as required.
Maintain strong interface with operators and technicians, plant supervision at all levels, and logistics / HQ stakeholders
Maintain gas monitoring equipment and supplies
Arrange waste shipments from the facility including hazardous and non-hazardous.
Serve as the radiation safety officer
Participate in new product introduction activities to ensure HSE items are addressed
Support injury case management
Support and guidance on personal protective equipment program
Support product stewardship issues (e.g. REACH registrations and submissions)
Implement any necessary programs such as the EPA’s Methylene Chloride - Workplace Chemical Protection Program
Role model the desired behaviors needed to drive continuous improvement in EHS performance
Qualifications
Associate’s degree in environmental engineering (or equivalent), including 5 years’ experience in chemical plant operation.
Strong understanding & experience in OSHA and environmental regulations, and hazardous materials handling.
A proven record of responsibility/accountability to meeting department and plant goals and safety leadership
Excellent verbal and written communication skills to satisfy the internal customer requirements of this position
Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks will be essential
Possesses a high level of initiative and is able to work effectively with minimum supervision
Maintains a sense of urgency, individual responsibility, and possesses the ability to effectively work under pressure and with changing priorities
Proficiency in Microsoft Office
Preferred Experience:
Bachelor’s degree Environmental Science or Engineering
5 years’ experience with permitting or regulatory background preferred.
Experience in PSM regulated facilities and related jurisdictional requirements.
Deep knowledge of EPA and State environmental regulations
Thorough knowledge of DOT regulations
Work Schedule & Location Requirements
The standard work schedule for this position requires on-site presence across (2) ALTIVIA facilities. The role is structured to support operational needs at each location, with a planned allocation of:
Two (2) days per week at the Crosby Facility
Three (3) days per week at the LaPorte Facility

The Environmental Engineer will work closely with the rest of the leadership team in the implementation of other site objectives as needed. \\r\\n\\r\\nKEY RESPONSIBILITIES:\\r\\n\\r\\n\\r\\n\\tProvide support to plant personnel to ensure regulatory compliance with safety, transportation and environmental regulations (federal, state and local)\\r\\n\\tMonthly, annual, and ad-hoc reporting to regulatory bodies (e.g., DMRs, TSCA, SARA 311/312/313, NPDES, Title V, RCRA, RMP and other site-required programs), as well as close cooperation with such bodies with timely responses on permits, audits, and inquiries\\r\\n\\tManage permit renewals (NSR, GCA, Stormwater, etc)\\r\\n\\tCoordinate compliance testing activities, including stack testing, RATA testing for boilers, stormwater sampling, RCRA metals testing, fugitive leak detection program, etc.\\r\\n\\tEnsure conformity with Responsible Care Management System (RCMS) requirements, maintain documentation supporting Responsible Care certification\\r\\n\\tServe as point person for internal EHS audits and participate as necessary in external audits (industry / OSHA)\\r\\n\\tSupport PSSR and MOC processes\\r\\n\\tSupport investigation of all environmental incidents, serving as the Environmental SME for Crosby/Laporte facilities.\\r\\n\\tLog incidents into Frontline to maintain compliance and support trending/learning. \\r\\n\\tParticipate in the Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) and Mutual Aid Agency (e.g. CIMA/MAMBI) as needed to support community emergency planning and coordination.\\r\\n\\tManage emergency plan submission to local authorities.\\r\\n\\tProviding unit level support for the maintenance of IH exposure assessments, exposure monitoring and communication of IH exposure records\\r\\n\\tManage all procedures, procedure reviews and training related to the EHS Manual.\\r\\n\\tDevelop and maintain EHS training documentation; facilitate training as needed; and maintain records of training, safety meetings, and compliance activities.\\r\\n\\tWork closely with other ALTIVIA EHS resources as required.\\r\\n\\tMaintain strong interface with operators and technicians, plant supervision at all levels, and logistics / HQ stakeholders\\r\\n\\tMaintain gas monitoring equipment and supplies\\r\\n\\tArrange waste shipments from the facility including hazardous and non-hazardous.\\r\\n\\tServe as the radiation safety officer\\r\\n\\tParticipate in new product introduction activities to ensure HSE items are addressed\\r\\n\\tSupport injury case management\\r\\n\\tSupport and guidance on personal protective equipment program\\r\\n\\tSupport product stewardship issues (e.g. REACH registrations and submissions)\\r\\n\\tImplement any necessary programs such as the EPA’s Methylene Chloride - Workplace Chemical Protection Program\\r\\n\\r\\n\\r\\nRole model the desired behaviors needed to drive continuous improvement in EHS performance\\r\\nQualifications\\n\\tAssociate’s degree in environmental engineering (or equivalent), including 5 years’ experience in chemical plant operation.\\n\\tStrong understanding & experience in OSHA and environmental regulations, and hazardous materials handling.\\n\\tA proven record of responsibility/accountability to meeting department and plant goals and safety leadership\\n\\tExcellent verbal and written communication skills to satisfy the internal customer requirements of this position \\n\\tAbility to manage and prioritize multiple tasks will be essential \\n\\tPossesses a high level of initiative and is able to work effectively with minimum supervision \\n\\tMaintains a sense of urgency, individual responsibility, and possesses the ability to effectively work under pressure and with changing priorities\\n\\tProficiency in Microsoft Office\\n\\n\\nPreferred Experience:\\n\\n\\n\\tBachelor’s degree Environmental Science or Engineering \\n\\t5 years’ experience with permitting or regulatory background preferred.\\n\\tExperience in PSM regulated facilities and related jurisdictional requirements.\\n\\tDeep knowledge of EPA and State environmental regulations\\n\\tThorough knowledge of DOT regulations\\n\\n\\nWork Schedule & Location Requirements\\n\\nThe standard work schedule for this position requires on-site presence across (2) ALTIVIA facilities.
