Description

We are seeking 2 certified Peer Support Specialist or Certified Recovery Mentor to work in our low-barrier substance use disorders program at the BHRN-Behavioral Health Regional Network. Be part of a dynamic caring and compassionate outreach team that does low barrier SUD treatment, peer mentoring, case management, employment, and housing social work. Position is located at our Madras BHRN Engagement Center which is open daily from 8 am -10 pm and shifts may include late afternoon, evening, or weekends. Come join our BHRN Team!! JOB SUMMARY: The Peer Support Specialist will provide support and encouragement to individuals with Substance Use Disorder (SUD) in both the hospital and outpatient settings to facilitate the development of their recovery skills, provide opportunities for individuals to direct their own recovery process, and support the learning and utilization of skills needed to foster recovery. The Peer Support Specialist will be knowledgeable of available service options, will promote the utilization of natural support systems, will facilitate the development of a sense of wellness and self-worth, and will work with a treatment team to promote the goals of the person in services in accordance with BestCare’s policies and best practices, as well as the State and Federal regulations for the prevention and treatment of substance use disorders. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Works closely with other staff as a member of a treatment team to provide healthy staff-to-staff and staff-to-client relationships; Provides respectful and compassionate treatment is provided to all clients who request services and acts as a role model to clients to inspire hope and share life experiences as appropriate to the recovery process; Telephones contacts, which includes talking with clients who need support and to remind clients who are scheduled for assessments, groups, individual sessions, medication management appointments, and other BestCare services; Identifies recovering person’s abilities, strengths and assets and assist them to recognize and use them; Identifies barriers to full participation and focuses on strategies and resources to overcome them; Provides recovery mentor services at the hospital and manages a case load as assigned; Participates in group recovery sessions as needed; Provides services within the framework of the Intentional Peer Support model; Transports clients to some appointments, when appropriate, if approved by supervisor, including to/from outpatient services at BestCare, to other agencies when they need assistance with accessing benefits, and other Provides referral to various services, when appropriate (i.e. Food Bank, LINC, primary care/medical services, community college, parenting, etc.); Ensures that client documentation in client EHR files is completed timely, complete, reflects clinical best practices, and meets State and BestCare standards; Maintains strong relationships with community partners, developing collaborative relationships whenever possible; Other related duties as assigned by the Program Manager. ORGANIZATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Performs work in alignment with BestCare’s mission, vision, values; Supports the organization’s commitment to fostering a culture of inclusivity, open-mindedness, equity, cultural awareness, compassion, and respect for all individuals; Strives to meet Program/Department goals and supports the organization’s strategic goals; Adheres to the organization’s Code of Conduct, Business Ethics, Employee Handbook, and all other relevant policies, procedures, and other compliance needs; Understands and maintains professionalism and confidentiality per HIPAA, 42 CFR, and Oregon Statutes; Attends required program/staff meetings and completes assigned training timely and satisfactorily; Ensures that any required certifications and/or licenses are kept current and renewed timely; Works independently as well as participates as a positive, collaborative team member. Performs other organizational duties as needed. REQUIRED COMPETENCIES: Must have demonstrated competency or ability to attain competency for each of the following within a reasonable period: Must have strong understanding of person-centered services using a recovery-oriented focus; Must have good understanding trauma-informed care and the Intentional Peer Support model; Demonstrated ability to effectively engage clients, provide compassionate, supportive care, and to build and maintain respectful, trusting, empathetic, and collaborative mutual relationships with clients and family members; Proficiency in MS Office 365 (Word, Excel, Outlook), EHR platform, databases, virtual meeting platforms, internet, and ability to learn new or updated software; Ability to maintain strict confidence as required by HIPAA, 42 CFR, and Oregon Statutes; Strong interpersonal and customer service skills; Strong communication skills (oral and written); Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, accuracy, and follow-through; Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines; Critical thinking skills; Ability to build and maintain positive relationships; Ability to function well and use good judgment in a high-paced and at times stressful environment; Ability to manage conflict resolution and anger/fear/hostility/violence of others appropriately and effectively; Ability to work effectively and respectfully in a diverse, multi-cultural environment; Ability to work independently as well as participating as a positive, collaborative team member.
