Job Summary: The Center for Biostatistics in AIDS Research (CBAR), an organization within the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, is responsible for the design, monitoring and statistical analysis of clinical trials and observational studies for several major national and international NIH-funded clinical research networks. CBAR employs over 60 statisticians and epidemiologists including Harvard faculty, research scientists, and staff.  Investigators within CBAR have provided statistical leadership and support for clinical research networks for thirty-five years. Currently this includes infectious disease networks such as: Advancing Clinical Therapeutics Globally for HIV/AIDS and Other Infections (ACTG) and the International Maternal Pediatric Adolescent AIDS Clinical Trials Network (IMPAACT). Results from studies have helped to establish the paradigm for the treatment and prevention of HIV and other infectious diseases, and contributed to international treatment and prevention guidelines. This position is located in the Center for Biostatistics in AIDS Research (CBAR) within the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health in Boston, Massachusetts.  Since 1989, CBAR and the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health have provided a strong program for growth and professional development of its research staff -- including a defined career path and opportunities for continuing education and attendance of professional meetings. CBAR has a hybrid work environment which includes a combination of on-campus/in-person work and remote work. Job-Specific Responsibilities: The Center for Biostatistics in AIDS Research (CBAR) is actively recruiting a Biostatistician I position to act as a protocol statistician under the direction of senior statisticians, collaborating with medical researchers in the design, implementation, analysis, and publication of national and international clinical trials and observational studies of HIV and other infectious disease with one or more of CBAR's projects. The primary focus initially will be on studies undertaken by Advancing Clinical Therapeutics Globally for HIV/AIDS and Other Infections (ACTG) and the International Maternal Pediatric Adolescent AIDS Clinical Trials Network (IMPAACT). The Biostatistician I will maintain professional knowledge and expertise. Participate in peer review and critique of reports and analyses; collaborate in resolution of technical problems. Participate as member on a CBAR committee to assist with statistical/administrative duties within CBAR. As a protocol statistician, the following specific duties are carried out under the direction of a CBAR senior statistician: Conduct ongoing, periodic and final analyses of data, using specialized statistical techniques and statistical programming. Determine proper summary statistics, report formats and all other analysis considerations. Review proposed study methodology, study parameters and all other related study factors of concept sheets and protocols to ensure conformance with accepted statistical principles. Recommend revisions and modifications. Determine and write statistical considerations for protocol documents and statistical analysis plans, according to study design and appropriate statistical methods. Develop stratification and randomization materials, in compliance with study design. Provide statistical input and advice to Network subcommittees. Collaborate with faculty on methodological research related to infectious diseases. Oversee development of data collection forms and proposed data management methods to ensure that the data to be collected will meet study objectives and allow valid analyses. Ensure integrity of data collection, data review, data compilation and analysis technique by monitoring protocols and procedures to ensure compliance with proper statistical techniques. Identify potential or actual administrative or scientific problems; suggest and implement corrective action. Prepare periodic and ad hoc data status reports. Collaborate with clinicians and senior CBAR statisticians on manuscripts, abstracts and other publications documenting study findings. Basic Qualifications: Master's Degree in Biostatistics, Statistics, or a closely-related field required Some clinical trials or statistical consulting experience Experience with statistical software (such as SAS, Stata, etc.) Additional Qualifications and Skills: Two-year Master's Degree (MA/MS) program Professional experience and/or education in statistical analysis of clinical or biological data, including failure time and categorical data Experience working within a collaborative research team Experience that required specialized, highly technical knowledge of statistical analysis techniques and principles including categorical data and censored failure time data analysis Advanced computer skills and experience with major statistical computing packages Strong oral and written communication skills Familiarity with medical terminology Experience with SAS, or strong background in other relevant packages (e.g., STATA, S-PLUS or R) Experience with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) Strong attention to detail Strong organizational skills Appointment End Date:  November 30, 2027 Standard Hours/Schedule: 35 hours per week Visa Sponsorship Information: Harvard University is unable to provide visa sponsorship for this position Pre-Employment Screening: Identity, Education Join the Harvard T.H.
