Whether you’re an experienced professional or just starting out, you’ll have the opportunity to contribute, grow, and make a lasting impact on industries that power the world’s most dynamic markets. Position Summary The Senior Regulatory Engineer serves as the technical authority for the interpretation and application of codes and standards governing IEM’s electrical distribution products. This role provides authoritative guidance on compliance pathways, supports cross-functional teams in translating regulatory requirements into actionable design and certification strategies, and serves as a primary technical interface with external certification bodies. The position supports new product development, product modifications, and continuity of compliant product offerings across IEM’s portfolio. Key Responsibilities The role is responsible for compliance with relevant industry regulations for multiple electrical distribution product lines. The position will support IEM’s expanding production campuses within the US and Canada. The Senior Regulatory Engineer position will include the following functions: Provide authoritative interpretation of applicable codes and standards (e.g., NEC, UL, CSA, ANSI/IEEE C37.20) and translate requirements into clear, actionable guidance for cross-functional engineering teams. Serve as a lead technical resource to R&D, Product Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain and Manufacturing on standards-driven design decisions and compliance pathways. Act as the primary technical interface with UL and other NRTLs, defining certification approaches, supporting testing and evaluation activities, and maintaining product listings and certifications. Collaborate with engineering teams to ensure new product designs, design changes, and component substitutions align with applicable standards and certification requirements, supporting continuity of supply. Interpret changes to codes and standards, assess applicability to IEM products, and provide recommendations, training, and reference materials to compliance leadership and other stakeholders as needed. Develop training and educational materials related to codes and standards for internal and external teams as needed. Competencies Strong technical understanding of codes and standards applicable to electrical distribution equipment, including UL 1558, UL 891, UL 1008, UL 67, IEEE C37.20, and related standards. Hands-on experience with product testing, certification, and listing processes through UL and/or other NRTLs. Demonstrated success collaborating across multidisciplinary, cross-functional teams. Highly effective written and verbal communication skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools, particularly Word and Excel. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical or scientific discipline. 3–5 years of experience in regulatory compliance or product certification within an electrical manufacturing environment. Direct experience working with UL and/or other NRTLs on product certifications. Experience supporting engineering or R&D teams on standards-driven design decisions is strongly preferred. Experience with UL or CSA Field Inspections or Field Evaluations is a plus. Experience with UL STP’s is a plus Compensation The salary range for this role is $120,000 -$ 165,000 per year, based on location, experience, and qualifications.
