Position Overview
The Lead Cashier / Key Holder is responsible for delivering excellent customer service while supporting daily front-end operations. This role helps oversee cashiers, ensures accurate transactions, and serves as a point of contact when management is not present. This position plays a key role in keeping the store running smoothly and creating a positive customer experience.
Key Responsibilities
Provide excellent customer service by actively engaging with customers, greeting them, and assisting with their needs
Lead front-end operations, including opening and closing procedures, cash drawer accountability, and ensuring registers are properly staffed
Serve as a key holder, assisting with store opening/closing, securing the building, and handling basic operational decisions when management is not on site
Support and guide cashiers throughout the shift, answering questions and stepping in as needed
Process transactions accurately and efficiently, following all cash handling procedures
Assist customers with product questions, locating items, and offering recommendations
Promote current sales, programs, and loyalty initiatives (including Do it Best rewards)
Handle customer concerns and escalate issues as needed, working toward resolution in a timely and professional manner
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe front-end and store environment
Communicate effectively with store leadership regarding any issues, concerns, or operational needs
Continuously build product knowledge to better assist customers and support sales efforts
Perform additional duties as assigned to support overall store operations
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent preferred
Previous retail or cashier experience required; leadership or key holder experience preferred
Comfortable using computers, POS systems, and basic office technology
Strong attention to detail, especially with cash handling and accuracy
Ability to multitask and stay organized in a fast-paced environment
Strong communication and customer service skills
Dependable and able to work independently when needed
Ability to lift 25–50 lbs and perform physical tasks such as standing, bending, and reaching throughout the shift
Availability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends
