    "requisitionDescription": "<div><p><strong>Summary</strong></p><p>The Department of Mathematics and Applied Sciences (MAS) at Harris-Stowe State University is creating a pool of potential adjunct instructors to teach mathematics, statistics, introductory computer programming, and/or data sciences. Courses in Statistics use the R statistical language and courses in data science use Python. Appointments are for immediate and upcoming semesters on as as-needed basis semester to semester. Generally, an adjunct instructor will teach a minimum of one course per academic year.</p></div><p><strong>Essential Functions</strong></p><ul type=\"disc\" id=\"isPasted\"><li>Prepares and delivers lectures, leads discussions, and performs other activities which are related to and meet course requirements for relevant MAS course(s).&nbsp;</li><li>Maintains course syllabi and provides each student with a written statement of course requirements at the beginning of each semester.</li><li>Conducts appropriate evaluations of student&#39;s performances and assigns grades&nbsp;on the basis of such evaluations.</li><li>Maintains and provides reports and/or records of student grades and attendance according to University requirements.</li><li>Becomes familiar with, utilizes and/or adheres to institutional and college tools and policies, including the Canvas Learning Management System, attendance, grade-reporting and record-keeping.</li><li>Attend adjunct-specific orientation meetings with the Dean, Chair, Adjunct faculty-liaison and/or with the institution.</li></ul><p><strong>Minimum Education and Experience</strong></p><p>The successful candidate must possess a Doctorate or a Master&rsquo;s Degree in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Mathematics Education, Statistics, Computer Science, or a closely related field from an accredited university. &nbsp;In addition, eighteen (18) credit hours of graduate level coursework must be related to the area of instruction.</p><p><strong>Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities</strong></p><ul type=\"disc\" id=\"isPasted\"><li>Strong understanding of the pedagogies of University level teaching, particularly for first generation University students.</li><li>Good Knowledge of principles and theory of teaching field.</li><li>Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.</li><li>Ability to exercise critical human relations skills in establishing and maintaining effective working relations with students and University community.</li></ul><p id=\"isPasted\"><strong><em>&quot;Please No Phone Calls&quot;</em></strong></p><p><em>Due to the large number of applications submitted and the high volume of applicant inquiries we receive regarding the status of applications, we are unable to accept phone calls or walk-in inquiries regarding applicant status.
