Job Summary The mission of the New York Public Library is to inspire lifelong learning, advance knowledge, and strengthen our communities. To deliver on this promise, we provide free access to physical and electronic resources in neighborhoods throughout the Bronx, Manhattan, and Staten Island. The Bronx Library Center is the largest public library in the Bronx. This 6-floor, 78,000 square feet, majestic LEED certified building is a dynamic, vibrant, and well-utilized center of access and learning in the Bronx. It is home to the New York Public Library’s premier Latino and Puerto Rican Heritage Collection, which features books in English and Spanish on the Latino experience. The Bronx Library Center serves a diverse clientele with dominant populations of Hispanics and African Americans. Reporting to the Managing Librarian, this part-time position is responsible for supporting audio/visual production (lighting, audio systems, etc…) and technological needs for a range of events and services in BLC. This position will coordinate with programming staff and internal departments to determine audiovisual and technological requirements, assist in ensuring staffing and equipment needs are met, set up and operate technology for any event, and provide staff and public technology training and assistance. Responsibilities: Reporting to the Managing Librarian, this position: Support all aspects of the Bronx Library Center's technological and programmatic needs (a/v, lighting) Train and support staff on A/V and computer technology Ensure that all A/V materials and equipment are handled properly and accounted for at the end of the day Perform basic repairs, adjustments, and cleaning of A/V devices Provide input and expertise on A/V and technology purchases Troubleshoot and assist with the handling of specialized user needs Assist with new A/V and/or technological initiatives and workflow, including documenting public programs and equipment maintenance Schedule and facilitate virtual/remote support for all programs Assist with BLC digital signage content creation and workflows Assist in monitoring programs and attendees for BLC Attend and participate in library staff meetings and training sessions Provide computer technology instruction and support to the public Knowledge of accessibility design or construction Able and willing to work a flexible schedule including nights and some weekends Required Education and Certifications 4 years of proven experience with A/V technology and computer hardware/software or equivalent combination of education and experience Required Experience Demonstrated experience with video/film projection including work with laptop projection and digital video Successfully demonstrated experience working with a variety of A/V formats and equipment (Lighting, Crestron, digital consoles, projectors, wireless microphones, etc…) Successfully demonstrated experience working with Zoom, Google Meet, and related virtual meeting platforms Required Skills Proficient with analog and digital technologies Successfully demonstrated ability to work with both Mac and PC computer platforms Successfully demonstrated ability to teach basic computer technology to the public Successfully demonstrated ability to perform work independently with speed, reliability, and accuracy in an automated environment, including the ability to troubleshoot and solve technical problems as they arise Successfully demonstrated ability to work on multiple tasks with changing priorities and deadlines Ability to communicate well with others, including co-workers, library users, and creative collaborators Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in MS Office and Google Suite Managerial/Supervisory Responsibilities: May supervise hourly staff during events Core Values All team members are expected and encouraged to embody the NYPL Core Values: Be Helpful to patrons and colleagues Be Resourceful in solving problems Be Curious in all aspects of your work Be Welcoming and Inclusive Work Environment Public Library Physical Duties Lifting up to 25 lbs. required Occasionally climb ladders Pre-Placement Physical Required?
