Description

As an electric cooperative, Hendricks Power is part of the nation's largest energy network which includes 1,000 electric cooperatives, public power districts, power supply generation and transmission cooperatives, statewide associations, regional trade and service associations, supply and manufacturing cooperatives, data processing cooperatives and employee credit unions. Electric cooperatives alone serve 32 million customers in 46 states, and cover more land mass than any of the nation's single electric utilities. Hendricks Power Cooperative celebrated its 65th anniversary in 2001. Formed in 1936, following the creation of Franklin D. Roosevelt's Rural Electrification Administration (REA), Hendricks Power Cooperative started with a small meeting of 12 people, farmers and rural residents, unable to convince the local utility, which was owned by investors, to build lines to serve them. They claimed it simply wasn't profitable to provide service to such sparsely-populated areas. The formal construction of these rural electric lines began the summer of 1937. On January 1, 1938, the first 122 miles of line was energized. Approximately 400 members received power to their homes and farms for the first time. The name Hendricks County Rural Electric Membership Corporation (REMC) was adopted, as the cooperative slowly grew. Today, Hendricks Power Cooperative serves over 35,000 members in Hendricks, Putnam, Morgan and Montgomery counties. Hendricks Power Cooperative is now accepting applications for the position of Distribution Designer in Avon, Indiana. Hendricks Power is a rural electric cooperative seeking to fill this position on our engineering team which focuses on distributing electric service to members across four counties in west-central Indiana. Position Objective: The Distribution Designer is responsible for designing and staking single- and multi-phase overhead and underground electrical distribution lines. This position works in both office and field environments and may require working outdoors in various weather conditions. Primary Responsibilities: Utilize GIS based staking software and GPS equipment to create staking sheets and work orders; design electrical distribution requirements to meet member needs, system improvements, subdivisions, apartment complexes and special projects (i.e. bridges, roundabouts); prepare and maintain documentation for permits, joint use facilities, easements, and underground releases; conduct field checks; meet with new and existing members, builders, developers, electricians, and engineering firms to determine electrical power requirements; and ensure compliance with RUS design specifications and NESC requirements. Duties and responsibilities may vary based on the selected candidate’s experience and background. Preferred candidates will possess the qualifications listed below; however, the Cooperative will consider candidates with varying levels of experience. Education & Experience High School diploma or GED required. Associates degree in related field preferred. Proficiency with various computer software required. Distribution line design and staking experience preferred. Knowledge of RUS design specifications and NESC requirements preferred. Experience with or training in GIS and/or AutoCad preferred. Positive customer service experience preferred. Personal & Position Qualifications Willingness and ability to work in both office and field environments. Strong English verbal and written communication skills. High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy. Strong electrical aptitude. Demonstrated professionalism and strong work ethic. Self-motivated with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment. Subject to random drug and alcohol testing according to Cooperative policies. Valid Indiana driver’s license required. This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated and detail-oriented individual to enjoy balancing technical design work, field responsibilities and customer interaction while contributing to the safe and reliable delivery of electric service. Standard office hours are 7:30am – 4:30pm Monday through Friday. Interested and potentially qualified applicants apply at: https://careers.smartrecruiters.com/WabashValleyPowerAlliance/hendricks-power . No phone calls please.
