Description
The Senior RF Engineering Technician provides advanced technical support to shipboard antenna overhaul and assessments. This critical role focuses on the restoration, evaluation, and qualification of naval antenna systems. The ideal candidate functions as a self-starter under minimal oversight, executing complex engineering test procedures to ensure Navy communications, and electronic warfare systems function safely and reliably in their intended operational electromagnetic environments.
Core Responsibilities:
Antenna Restoration & Evaluation:
Overhauling, restoring, and tuning specialized antenna systems, conducting rigorous technical evaluations to ensure all performance parameters strictly meet specified Navy and DoD operational standards
Shipboard Integration (MIL-STD-1310):
Applying expert knowledge of MIL-STD-1310 to implement proper grounding, bonding, and shielding protocols, mitigating electromagnetic interference (EMI) and hazards on naval platforms
Schematic Interpretation:
Reading, interpreting, and accurately working from complex engineering schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical drawings to modify, build, or repair RF subassemblies
RF Testing & Diagnostics:
Configuring and operating specialized RF test suites, utilizing Network Analyzers, Time Domain Reflectometers (TDRs), multi-meters, and spectrum analyzers to isolate faults, measure VSWR, and map transmission lines
Precision Assembly & Soldering:
Performing high-reliability soldering of micro-electronic components and complex subcomponents, ensuring all work meets rigorous industry standards for Soldered Electrical and Electronic Assemblies
Technical Documentation:
Authoring detailed engineering records, including test plans, comprehensive test results, analytical evaluations, and technical presentations for senior leadership and engineering staff
Field & Lab Support:
Supporting testing activities within specialized chambers (e.g., mode-stirred or anechoic) as well as operational field environments
Leadership & Mentorship:
Leading day-to-day operations of laboratory/range environments, providing on-the-job mentorship and technical guidance to junior RF technicians

Requirements
10 years of specialized technical experience in antenna or RF restoration process and evaluating antennas to ensure operation is with specifications
Experience in the proper application of MIL-STD-1310 with respect to grounding and bonding
Experience with reading and understanding antenna schematics and drawings
Experience using RF test equipment, such as multi-meters, Time Domain Reflectometers (TDRs) and Network Analyzers
Experience with soldering electronic components and subcomponents to meet industry standard for Soldered Electrical and Electronic Assemblies
Experienced in preparing technical documents, which include test plans/reports, analytical evaluations, and presentations
