Position Description
The Warehouse Specialists will be part of 70-person End User Services and Audio Visual (AV) Collaboration Support team supporting the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), an agency within the U.S. Department of Commerce, responsible for granting U.S. patents and registering trademarks, playing a vital role in fostering innovation, protecting intellectual property, and supporting economic growth. To carry out this mission, USPTO depends on a modern, secure, and highly available information technology environment that supports a geographically dispersed workforce, extensive telework capabilities, and high-demand public-facing systems. The Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO) is central to this effort, delivering reliable, innovative, and secure IT services that enhance productivity, communication, and collaboration for leadership, employees, and external stakeholders.
The Warehouse Specialists positions support the USPTO OCIO mission by managing a centralized warehouse operations serving as the single point of shipping, receiving, processing, and lifecycle management for End User Services and Operations Support (EUSOS) equipment, including telework packages, CAS networking hardware, and audiovisual assets. Operating within a secure facility located within proximity to the USPTO main campus in Alexandria, Virginia, the Warehouse Specialists are responsible for receiving, scanning, tagging, stocking, and tracking all incoming equipment in accordance with service level agreements while ensuring accurate updates to service requests and asset management systems.
The Warehouse Specialists coordinates the staging, delivery, and retrieval of equipment across USPTO locations, including campus storage facilities, telework depots, and remote sites, while managing return merchandise authorizations, excess property disposition, and long-term storage requirements. This role ensures all inventory movement is properly documented and tracked, supports shipment of equipment to teleworkers and field offices, and facilitates delivery and recovery of AV/VTC and networking equipment for operational use and site transitions. In addition, the Warehouse Specialist maintains strict adherence to physical security, safety, and environmental controls, ensuring compliance with all applicable federal, local, and organizational standards, including continuous monitoring, access control, and OSHA-aligned safety practices.
The Warehouse Specialists support advanced inventory and warehouse management operations by maintaining accurate asset visibility through system updates, barcode tracking, and integration with asset management and warehouse management systems.
The End User Services and Audio Visual (AV) Collaboration Support project supports 12,895 teleworkers in which 96.14% of USPTO employees are teleworking at least one day a week with 11,405 of those teleworkers working from home five days per week. USPTO maintains over 17,800 laptop/desktop computers for employees and on-site support contractors, and over 26,800 printers. The warehouse contains over 190 different IT items with approximately 11,000 serialized items and a total of 20,000 items currently stored.
Responsibilities
Receive, inspect, scan, tag, and stock all incoming EUSOS equipment in accordance with established SLAs Maintain accurate inventory records by updating Service Management Platform (SMP) requests and asset management databases Coordinate and execute the shipment, delivery, and retrieval of IT, AV/VTC, telework, and networking equipment across USPTO locations Stage and prepare equipment for deployment to campus IT storage facilities, telework depots, and remote users Manage Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) processes for defective equipment and support excess property disposition Track all inventory movement and ensure proper documentation of asset lifecycle activities Support shipping of monitors, printers, and other equipment to teleworkers in alignment with service requests Deliver and retrieve AV/VTC and CAS networking equipment to and from USPTO sites and field offices Operate within a secure warehouse environment, ensuring compliance with physical security, safety, and access control requirements Conduct daily safety checks and adhere to OSHA and local fire and safety regulations Perform inventory control activities including cycle counts, reconciliation, and quarterly asset certification Utilize barcode scanners and warehouse systems to capture and manage asset and serial number data Support Warehouse Management System (WMS) functions, including receiving, order fulfillment, and inventory tracking Monitor inventory levels, identify slow-moving assets, and assist in inventory optimization strategies Apply best practices such as FIFO, batch picking, and ABC classification to improve efficiency and accuracy Assist with preventive and corrective maintenance of warehouse equipment and infrastructure Ensure proper environmental conditions (e.g., climate control) to protect equipment from damage Test, evaluate, and process returned equipment for reuse, repair, or disposal Perform data sanitization and media disposal in compliance with established security standards (e.g., DoD 5220.22-M) Prepare equipment for shipment to authorized disposition facilities (e.g., GSA) Support continuous process improvement initiatives and identify opportunities for automation and efficiency gains Collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to ensure timely and accurate service delivery Maintain compliance with ISO-certified processes and organizational quality standards Provide responsive customer support and ensure timely fulfillment of service requests Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required; additional training or certification in warehouse operations, logistics, or supply chain management preferred Minimum of 2+ years of experience in warehouse operations, logistics, inventory management, or related field Experience receiving, storing, tracking, and shipping IT equipment or similar technical assets Hands-on experience with inventory management systems and asset tracking tools (e.g., barcode scanners, warehouse or asset management systems) Ability to maintain accurate inventory records and perform cycle counts, audits, and reconciliation activities Experience with order fulfillment processes, including picking, packing, staging, and coordinating shipments Knowledge of warehouse safety practices and ability to follow OSHA and organizational safety protocols Experience operating warehouse equipment such as pallet jacks and/or forklifts (or ability to obtain certification) Familiarity with physical security practices, including access control, monitoring systems, and asset protection procedures Ability to safely lift and move equipment up to 50 lbs. and work in physically demanding environments Valid driver’s license and ability to support local deliveries within Northern Virginia (within approximately 50 miles) Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet service level agreements (SLAs) Basic computer proficiency, including experience with inventory systems, Microsoft Office, and data entry Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented, Agile environment and support cross-functional collaboration Strong attention to detail and commitment to product quality, accuracy, and customer satisfaction Ability to analyze data and support process improvements to enhance warehouse efficiency and operations U.S. Citizenship required Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance or higher Preferred
