Title of Position Lead Cook Specific Areas of Impact Youth Development, Camp Collins Branch/Region: YMCA Camp Collins-East Region Job Status: 30+ hours a week FLSA Status: Non-Exempt, Seasonal Pay Range: $17 to $18/hr. Work Schedule: Sun-Fri, could include evenings and weekends Reports To: Kitchen Manager POSITION SUMMARY The Lead Cook supports the work of the YMCA of Columbia-Willamette, a leading, philanthropic organization committed to strengthening the foundations of our communities . The Lead Cook stewards the Y’s cause and advocates for the Y’s mission and strategic plan, promoting and protecting the brand and reputation as a global, inclusive organization. The Lead Cook oversees a specifically assigned program area for a designated service region of the YMCA of Columbia-Willamette and participates in financial, philanthropic, staff, and program development. FUNCTIONS Reasonable Accommodations Statement To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform the functions. Essential Functions Cook healthy and appealing meals in a timely manner. Support Kitchen Manager in creating healthy, diverse menus for a variety of guests. Follow prescribed menus. Order foods accurately and economically. Execute the majority of duties in direct contact with other members of the food service team, as well as children, other staff and guests. Prepare and serve meals according to usage/preparation directions and the Kitchen Manager’s instructions. Perform kitchen cleaning duties such as operation of the dishwasher, sweeping, mopping, and sanitizing surfaces. Communicate effectively with other members of the food services team. Operate food preparation utensils, such as knives and peelers, requiring excellent hand/eye coordination. Operate industrial food preparation equipment requiring excellent hand/eye coordination, ability to comprehend operation safety instructions. Practices and promotes c leanliness, proper food handling, as well as proper recycling/composting & trash disposal Maintain a high standard of cleanliness in all food preparation and storage areas. This position may have some weekend responsibilities. Perform all other duties as assigned. Minimum of 4-day work week, 30+ hours per week, scheduled with supervisor Additional Functions: Ability to read and follow written and oral instructions. Ability to accept guidance and supervision and work with others Ability to perform manual labor, including bending, stooping, reaching, climbing on ladders and lifting heavy objects. Ability to work both indoors and outdoors with hazards associated with the use of hand tools and power tools. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, volunteers and the general public. Ability to lift loads up to 50lbs. Maintain cleanliness standards at designated Site. Participate in all Regional Staff meetings and functions. Work well in high stress situations, responding properly to critical incidents, and act swiftly in emergencies. Work independently as well as create and lead work teams. Establish harmonious relations with staff team, volunteers, participants/members, and local partners. Actively participate in the YMCA’s annual support campaign. REQUIREMENTS Must pass YMCA background check. Must be at least 18 years of age. Participate in all assigned, job related trainings. CPR/First Aid and Food Handlers certifications or ability to acquire within 30 days of employment. Prior work experience with food service preferred. Reliable transportation to work location. WORK ENVIRONMENT Work is performed at YMCA Camp Collins-East Region. Acceptable and appropriate work attire for the position is required.
