    "ExternalDescriptionStr": "<p style=\"margin-left:0in\"><span>We’re looking for a&nbsp;<b>Senior Embedded Software Engineer</b> to design, develop, and maintain embedded software for our next-generation breast and skeletal health systems.&nbsp;</span><span>In addition to core embedded software development, this role requires hands-on experience with low-level embedded software development, including driver-level design, implementation, and testing, as well as board bring-up activities. The engineer will work closely with hardware teams to interface with peripherals and ensure reliable system operation using communication protocols such as I2C, SPI, UART, USB, CAN, and Ethernet.&nbsp;</span><span>This role is based out of Newark, DE and will require onsite presence.</span></p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:0in\">&nbsp;</p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:0in\"><b>What You’ll Do</b></p>\n<ul>\n <li>Develop an expert-level understanding of our products and how they’re used in clinical practice.</li>\n <li><span>Design, implement, and validate low-level device drivers for embedded platforms.</span></li>\n <li><span>Perform board bring-up activities, including hardware/software integration, debugging, and validation on new hardware platforms.</span></li>\n <li><span>Develop and debug software interfaces for hardware peripherals using protocols such as I2C, SPI, UART, USB, CAN, and Ethernet.</span></li>\n <li>Work within an Agile/Scrum/Continuous Integration environment to deliver reliable, production-ready code.</li>\n <li>Contribute to technical documentation, including requirements, design specifications, and release notes.</li>\n <li>Identify, design, and implement appropriate software testing; collaborate closely with Test Engineers to support verification and validation.</li>\n <li>Diagnose, prioritize, and resolve complex technical issues; analyze defects and drive process improvements.</li>\n <li>Serve as a technical leader on the team—mentoring junior engineers, promoting best practices, and insisting on high standards for quality and usability.</li>\n <li>Partner with Product Management and domain experts to define product improvements and new features.</li>\n <li>Perform software risk assessments (e.g., FMEAs) and help develop appropriate mitigations at the component, subsystem, and system levels.</li>\n <li>Stay current with emerging technologies and propose opportunities for product and process improvements.</li>\n <li>Train cross-functional teams on key product design elements and proper usage where needed.</li>\n</ul>\n<p style=\"margin-left:0in\">&nbsp;</p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:0in\"><b>What We’re Looking For</b></p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:0in\"><b>Education</b></p>\n<ul>\n <li>Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant technical field (e.g., Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or similar).</li>\n</ul>\n<p style=\"margin-left:0in\"><b>Experience</b></p>\n<ul>\n <li><b>8+ years</b> of experience with a Bachelor’s degree.&nbsp;</li>\n <li>Experience developing complex, multi-component systems, including RTOS and/or embedded controllers.</li>\n <li>Strong computer science foundation, including operating systems, software systems, data structures, algorithms, and networking.</li>\n</ul>\n<p style=\"margin-left:0in\"><b>Technical Skills</b></p>\n<ul>\n <li><span>Hands-on experience with low-level embedded software development, including device driver design, implementation, and testing.</span></li>\n <li><span>Experience with board bring-up, hardware/software integration, and debugging on new hardware platforms.</span></li>\n <li><span>Strong experience interfacing with hardware using communication protocols such as I2C, SPI, UART, USB, CAN, and Ethernet.</span></li>\n <li>Expert-level programming skills in&nbsp;<b>C/C++</b> in an embedded environment; assembler-level experience is a plus.</li>\n <li>Demonstrated mastery of software design principles, data structures, design patterns, and multithreading.</li>\n <li>Ability to architect complex software systems to meet functional and performance requirements while maintaining long-term maintainability.</li>\n <li>Ability to read and interpret circuit diagrams to identify control signals and processor inputs.</li>\n <li>Strong debugging skills and experience resolving complex issues in embedded systems.</li>\n <li>Comfortable working with technical documentation (requirements, design documents, release notes, etc.).</li>\n <li>Experience conducting and participating in thorough code reviews.</li>\n <li>Strong familiarity with developer tools: version control, CI/CD build pipelines, and issue/project tracking tools.</li>\n</ul>\n<p style=\"margin-left:0in\"><b>Soft Skills</b></p>\n<ul>\n <li>Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex technical topics to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.</li>\n <li>Able to adapt communication style to different audiences and collaborate effectively within a cross-functional team.</li>\n <li>Demonstrated ownership of deliverables, with a track record of meeting project timelines.</li>\n <li>Strong awareness of both local and system-level impact of code changes.</li>\n <li>Proven ability to champion best practices and contribute to continuous improvement in processes and products.</li>\n</ul>\n<p style=\"margin-left:0in\">&nbsp;</p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:0in\"><b>Nice-to-Have</b></p>\n<ul>\n <li>Experience in the&nbsp;<b>medical device</b> industry.</li>\n <li>Experience with&nbsp;<b>medical imaging</b> or general image processing.</li>\n <li>Familiarity with&nbsp;<b>DICOM</b> and/or&nbsp;<b>HL7</b> standards.</li>\n <li>Experience with&nbsp;<b>secure coding principles</b> or cybersecurity.</li>\n</ul>\n<p style=\"margin-left:0in\">&nbsp;</p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:0in\"><b>So why join Hologic?</b></p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:0in\">We are committed to making Hologic the company where top talent comes to grow.
