Its subsidiaries have interests in grocery, manufacturing, property management, transportation, and significant dealings in the oil and gas industry. Combining local government and service delivery, community development, investment, and operating business divisions, all managed by a single back office, the organization has an array of complexities for the executive staff to navigate. JOB SUMMARY IRC (Inuvialuit Regional Corporation) is establishing a candidate pool for various cruise ship companies seeking Cruise Ship Monitors. This role involves monitoring and ensuring environmental compliance onboard cruise ships visiting the Inuvialuit Settlement Region (ISR). There are expected to be approximately 7 cruise ships making 22 stops in the region. Please note that employment contracts are not guaranteed, as candidates from the pool may be selected by different cruise ship companies. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Applicants must be/have: Environmental Compliance: Monitor and enforce environmental regulations, guidelines, and standards onboard cruise ships. Ensure that cruise ship operations align with the project description, terms and conditions, and applicable environmental standards. Safety and Precautionary Measures: Follow and promote safety protocols and measures onboard, prioritizing the well-being of passengers, crew, and the environment. Possess knowledge of wildlife monitoring and predator defense techniques to ensure the safety of both humans and wildlife. Liaison and Communication: Act as a liaison between the cruise ship management and relevant stakeholders, facilitating effective communication regarding environmental concerns and compliance matters. Collaborate with key personnel onboard, including wildlife monitors and other staff, to address and mitigate potential environmental issues. Documentation and Reporting: Prepare accurate and timely reports on environmental monitoring activities, documenting compliance, and non-compliance incidents. Report any critical situations or emergencies and assist in implementing appropriate response measures. Collaboration and Problem Solving: Work closely with Environmental Specialists or designated officers to address ongoing issues or non-compliance incidents. Identify and resolve specific problems related to environmental compliance, wildlife safety, or other relevant concerns. Enforcement and Escalation: Immediately report any instances of non-compliance or safety risks to the cruise ship management or designated authority onboard. Take necessary actions as directed by the cruise ship management to ensure compliance and prevent further environmental damage or risks. JOB REQUIREMENTS Completed Wildlife Monitoring or Wildlife Safety Technician Course Valid Standard First Aid Knowledge of Predator Defense Valid Canadian Passport Passport must have at least 4 blank pages Passport must be valid for at least six months beyond departure dates in the employment period Satisfactory Criminal Record Check Ability to travel internationally Ability to work and temporarily reside on a cruise ship vessel Willingness to share accommodations in a small space Note: The specific responsibilities, qualifications, and procedures may vary depending on the cruise ship company and their policies.
