AmeriCorps Youth Positions for High School Students *Documents needed to enroll: Government Issued Photo ID, Signed Social Security Card, US Birth Certificate or another form of Proof of Citizenship. Monday - Friday: May include a few weekend days during the term of service for special service projects or activities promoting civic engagement.                                300 Hour Term Education Award Position                                Schedule: Min. 14 hours per week (tutoring and mentoring elementary students)                                 Total Gross Living Allowance: $4,200.00                                 Pretax Living Allowance: $240.00 per piece                                 Education Award: $1,565.08 Definition of Living Allowance: money distributed to individuals to meet basic living needs.  Living allowance is not considered money earned as during employment.  Members are not classified as employees.  Therefore members are not subject to employee benefits or eligible for unemployment.  A living allowance may not affect other benefits such as social security, retirement, or other assistance benefits. The Segal AmeriCorps Education Award is offered to individuals who complete a term of service and can be used to pay for a range of education/training expenses.  Examples include: repaying qualified student loans, future tuition payments, skill training programs and more. You can earn up to 2 Full Time Education awards while serving up to 4 service terms. Additional benefits can include: The opportunity to explore a career pathway Experience providing academic support Hands-on experience and portfolio development A lifetime of service family and friends! Position Summary: The member will increase the capacity for a school by providing academic assistance/mentoring, and/or service-learning activities with students. Each member will provide receive one-on one and/or small group academic support in before, during and/or after-school programs. Your service will impact elementary students success in the classroom. Members will document their service impact by documenting pre and post rubric outcomes for social and academic growth. AmeriCorps members serving in the Youth program could participate in any of the following activities: Provide a homework help for students through before and after school and/or summer programs, Plan and implement one-on-one or small group activities for at-risk students to promote healthy, positive social interactions and self-confidence, improve behavior, and decrease disciplinary issues. Develop and maintain positive relationships with children, serving as a role model to encourage character building habits and important social and life skills Assist with maintaining a clean and safe environment for children through facility preparation, and ongoing and after program upkeep Encourage good eating habits by assisting with the preparation and serving of nutritious meals and snacks during the implementation of program activities Collaborate with agency staff to monitor youth progress using written evaluations, observation notes, and/or other site-specific tools and protocols Increase the capacity of your school district to provide support in health and wellness, recreation, art, teambuilding, music, science, literacy, technology and/or math Additional activities could be assigned by the host site and will be provided on the member's service description upon acceptance. Alumni Network: Join a network of like-minded leaders passionate about improving communities. AmeriCorps alumni receive access to special benefits and resources.
