Historically founded on the Christian principles of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility; our mission is to put these principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all.&nbsp;</p><p>We are for ALL.&nbsp;</p><p><strong>Position Summary:</strong></p><p>Under the direction of the Camp Program Director, the Lead Counselor is responsible for working with staff in an active outdoor day camp program that will meet the objectives of the YMCA and will be appropriate for campers who have completed grades K-1, 2-3, and 4-6. &nbsp;The Lead Counselor is individually responsible for 10 to 12 campers per session. &nbsp;Supervise and teach skills in a variety of areas including: &nbsp;arts &amp; crafts, character education, sports, and games. &nbsp;Provide opportunities for all campers to build confidence, learn new life-skills, and develop friendships.</p><p><strong>Essential Functions:</strong></p><ul><li>&nbsp;&nbsp;Models the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.&nbsp;</li><li>&nbsp;&nbsp;Develops and maintains positive relationships with individuals and groups at all levels of the organization; supporting members connect with each other and the YMCA.&nbsp;</li><li>&nbsp;&nbsp;Maintains physical presence, always remains alert while on duty.&nbsp;</li><li>&nbsp;&nbsp;Knows and reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures; completes related reports as required.&nbsp;</li><li>&nbsp;&nbsp;Supervises an assigned group of youth per Department of Health (DOH) mandated ratios.&nbsp;</li><li>&nbsp;&nbsp;Plans and leads activities such as arts, crafts, sports, games, and hobbies.&nbsp;</li><li>&nbsp;&nbsp;Enforces camp rules and DOH regulations and ensures safety in the recreational facilities.&nbsp;</li><li>&nbsp;&nbsp;Demonstrates use of recreational equipment and teaches participants the principles, techniques, and safety procedures for each activity.&nbsp;</li><li>&nbsp;&nbsp;Greets new arrivals and introduces them to other campers; explains camp and facility rules.&nbsp;</li><li>Reports camper complaints to leadership and works to resolve issues.</li><li>Maintain records of attendance and parent communication if needed.</li><li>Knows, follows, and enforces all YMCA policies, rules, regulations, procedures, and staff expectations, including those for the prevention of child abuse.&nbsp;</li><li>&nbsp;&nbsp;Ambassador of all YMCA programs with a focus on department offerings and member engagement.&nbsp;</li><li>&nbsp;&nbsp;Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed.
