Guided by the goals and objectives of the Future Guelph: Strategic Plan and committed to the Corporate Values of integrity, service, inclusion, wellness and learning, the candidate will aid in the achievement of the Community Vision for an inclusive, connected, prosperous city. </p>\n<h2>Position Overview</h2>\n<p>We are looking for an experienced potter who has training in ceramics and has the desire to teach and instruct both adults as well as children from beginner to advanced courses in the art of pottery.</p>\n<p> </p>\n<p><strong>Hours of work</strong>We are currently looking for instructors for:</p>\n<ul>\n <li>Pottery on the Wheel - Tuesdays – July 7 – August 25 – 5:30-8:30 p.m.</li>\n <li>Teen Pottery - Wednesdays – July 8 – August 26 – 5:30-8 p.m.</li>\n <li>Pottery on the Wheel - Thursdays – July 9 – August 27 – 5:30-8:30 p.m.</li>\n</ul>\n<p><strong>Note: the above times include setup/take down</strong></p>\n<p><strong>Key duties and responsibilities</strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li>Set-up and clean-up of program activities</li>\n <li>Plan and implement age-appropriate program activities</li>\n <li>Responsible for taking the necessary steps for always ensuring the safety of both children and adults in the program (following City of Guelph process and procedure)</li>\n <li>Teach a well-thought-out weekly plan, incorporating different ceramics techniques.</li>\n <li>Have weekend and weeknight availability to facilitate Open Studio time.</li>\n <li>Create a welcoming environment for all participants</li>\n <li>Communicate with the program team</li>\n <li>Responsible for the health and safety of participants and complete incident/accident forms when needed</li>\n <li>Ensure facilities and equipment are maintained and kept in an acceptable, safe condition.</li>\n <li>Act as a resource for program participants</li>\n <li>Provide fully inclusive programming to participants of all abilities and skill levels</li>\n <li>Provide modifications where required</li>\n <li>Ensure participant confidentiality</li>\n <li>Other duties as assigned</li>\n</ul>\n<p><strong>Qualifications and requirements</strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li>A positive, encouraging attitude</li>\n <li>Highly responsible and punctual</li>\n <li>Extensive ceramics background and past teaching experience</li>\n <li>Thoughtful, energetic and passionate about teaching</li>\n <li>Ability to problem-solve and work both independently and in a team environment</li>\n <li>Ability to communicate and interact positively</li>\n <li>Extensive knowledge in handbuilding and pottery on the wheel</li>\n <li>Extensive knowledge in glazing and firing pottery in kilns</li>\n <li>Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills</li>\n <li>Ability to respect and maintain participant confidentiality</li>\n <li>A satisfactory Police Record Check including Vulnerable Sector Check is required at time of offer</li>\n <li>Standard first Aid with CPR C</li>\n <li>Full availability is required for scheduled program day and time</li>\n</ul>\n<p><strong>How to apply</strong>Qualified applicants are invited to apply using our online application system by <strong>May 31, 2026.</strong> Please note all applicants must complete the online questionnaire specific to this position at the time they submit their resume and cover letter in order to be considered.</p>\n<p><strong>Hiring Process Transparency</strong>The City of Guelph is committed to fair and transparent recruitment practices.
