Located on Fort Sam Houston, BAMC is a 425-bed academic medical center, and is the Department of Defense's largest facility and only Level 1 trauma center. BAMC is also home to the Center for the Intrepid, an outpatient rehabilitation facility. The center is composed of ten separate organizations, including community medical clinics, centered around the Army's largest in-patient hospital. BAMC is staffed by more than 8,000 soldiers, airmen, sailors, civilians, and contractors, providing care to wounded service members and the San Antonio community at large.</p>\n<p>Brooke Army Medical Center has a history which dates back to 1879 when the first Post Hospital opened as a small medical dispensary located in a single-story wooden building. For more information, please visit the following link: https://www.usajobs.gov/Help/working-in-government/benefits/   </p>\n<p> </p>\n<p>Medical malpractice liability insurance is not required for federal civilian healthcare providers as they are covered by the Federal Tort Claims Act (28 U.S.C. § 1346(b)) while acting within the scope of their employment.</p>\n<p> </p>\n<p><strong>Who May Apply: US Citizens</strong></p>\n<p><strong>This is a Direct Hire Solicitation.</strong><strong>Management prefers Board Certified Internal Medicine Physician.</strong><strong>Management prefers experience in Inpatient Medicine and Consultative Medicine.</strong></p>\n<p> </p>\n<h2>Responsibilities</h2>\n<ul>\n <li>Serve as an Internal Medicine Physician in a Patient Centered Medical Home (PCMH); scope includes a broad spectrum of health services for adults ranging from preventative medicine to diagnosis and treatment of complex acute and chronic diseases.</li>\n <li>Serve as an inpatient general medicine ward attending physician.</li>\n <li>Coordinate and/or integrates care across all elements of the healthcare system (e.g., subspecialty care, hospitals, home health agencies, nursing homes) and the patient's community; Admit patients to the hospital when appropriate.</li>\n <li>Lead and provides technical oversight of multidisciplinary clinical team (e.g. nurses, social workers, therapists, and various technicians) that are assigned to the medical home and responsible for panel management and patient care.</li>\n <li>Serve as an inpatient and outpatient consultant for the Internal Medicine Consult Service; must be available for telephonic or personal consultation for inpatient care when on call.</li>\n <li>Provide first contact, continuous, comprehensive primary care for adults and DoD beneficiaries according to standards of care, the PCMH model of care, Army policy, and relevant regulations.</li>\n <li>Coordinate and/or integrate care across all elements of the healthcare system (e.g., subspecialty care, hospitals, home health agencies, nursing homes) and the patient's community; Admit patients to the hospital when appropriate.</li>\n <li>Lead and provide technical oversight of multidisciplinary clinical team (e.g. nurses, social workers, therapists, and various technicians) that are assigned to the medical home and responsible for panel management and patient care.</li>\n <li>Teach and provide consultation to other health care providers as assigned.</li>\n <li>Complete required documentation and records pertaining to all medical services provided; properly safeguards all reports and records according to the Health Information Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) standards.</li>\n <li>Participate in Continuing Medical Education and quality assurance activities.</li>\n <li>Moderate to heavy lifting up to 45 pounds is required.</li>\n <li>Provide consultative preoperative and perioperative recommendations to the surgical specialties as well as teaching consultative medicine to the assigned house staff.</li>\n <li>Participate in teaching activities for residents and interns; direct the input into continual quality improvement of the Internal Medicine Training Program.</li>\n <li>Attend Department or Hospital board or committee meetings; participate in Continuing Medical Education and Quality Assurance activities.</li>\n <li><p>Performs Other Duties as Assigned</p></li>\n</ul>\n<h2>Qualifications</h2>\n<p><strong><strong>Must be a US Citizen</strong></strong></p>\n<p> </p>\n<p>In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document.<strong>Basic Requirement for Physician (Internal Medicine):</strong><strong>Degree:</strong> Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, or equivalent from a school in the United States or Canada. This degree must have been accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association; Association of American Medical Colleges; Liaison Committee on Medical Education; Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school must have provided education and medical knowledge equivalent to accredited schools in the United States. Evidence of equivalency to accredited schools in the United States is demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates, a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduate education in a foreign country, or successful completion of the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts or proof of foreign equivalency with your application package.)<strong>Licensure:</strong> Applicants must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.<strong>Graduate Training:</strong> Subsequent to obtaining a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree, a candidate must have had at least one year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting, i.e., a one-year internship or the first year of a residency program in a hospital or an institution accredited for such training.<strong>In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:Residency Training for GP-14</strong>: Applicants must have successfully completed the required accredited residency training in the specialty of the position to be filled (Internal Medicine) and equivalent experience and training equal to at least <strong>4 years</strong>. Experience may not be substituted for residency training that is required for the specialty identified.<strong>If you are selected for a Physician position:</strong> A salary quote will not be provided to you at the time of the initial job offer.
