    "description": "<h2>Overview</h2>\n<p><strong>Location: </strong>New London Corps, Red Shield Youth Center</p>\n<p><strong>Hours Per Week: </strong>15</p>\n<p><strong>Schedule: </strong>Monday-Friday, 3:00 pm-6:00 pm </p>\n<p> </p>\n<p><strong>Scope of Position:  </strong>Serve as a positive Christian role model in the lives of children. Create and maintain a safe physical and emotional environment, directly supervise children during program hours, and assist with planning and implementing program areas.</p>\n<h2>Responsibilities</h2>\n<ul>\n <li>Assist in creating and implementing programs that enhance youth members’ spiritual, physical, and emotional development.</li>\n <li>Attend and chaperone Corps, Divisional, and Territorial retreats and events.</li>\n <li>Complete accident or incident reports, in accordance with procedures.</li>\n <li>Complete any required or mandated training and professional development.</li>\n <li>Complete daily reports on department activities and attendance.</li>\n <li>Develop and maintain contacts with young adults and teens at local colleges and high schools, where permitted.</li>\n <li>Develop and maintain practical approaches to fostering solid Christian living among children, teens, and younger adults.</li>\n <li>Engage and inform parents about community resources, opportunities, and youth members’ expectations.</li>\n <li>Help with summer Vacation Bible School outreach.</li>\n <li>Implement and actively supervise programs, services, and activities for youth members.</li>\n <li>Promote a physically and emotionally safe environment for youth members.</li>\n <li>Provide guidance and positive role modeling to youth members.</li>\n <li>Provide homework and power-hour support.</li>\n <li>Stimulate youth members’ interest and positive participation in activities.</li>\n <li>Work with employees and officers on special events and programs in other areas of the Corps.</li>\n</ul>\n<h2>Qualifications</h2>\n<ul>\n <li>High school graduate or equivalent with relevant youth work or volunteer experience required.</li>\n <li>Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.</li>\n <li>Computer skills, particularly with Microsoft Office.</li>\n <li>Must be a role model of academic success, good character, citizenship, and healthy life skills.</li>\n <li>Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and be flexible.</li>\n <li>Must be energetic, organized, dependable, and compassionate.</li>\n <li>Must have a genuine interest and ability to relate to youth and earn their respect.</li>\n <li>Must have a realistic understanding of community life and the forces influencing youth.</li>\n <li>Must have good communication and interpersonal skills, and be understandable and relevant to young people.</li>\n <li>Must have maturity, self-control, sound judgment, leadership, a sense of humor, and patience.</li>\n <li>Must share a vision for The Salvation Army's philosophy for youth ministry.</li>\n <li>Self-motivated and strong communication skills.</li>\n <li>Valid driver’s license.</li>\n <li>Will respect and promote the interests of The Salvation Army.
