Description
The Instructional Technologist is responsible for training and support for instructional technology tools for teaching and learning. This role works collaboratively with faculty to enhance student learning and faculty teaching through the appropriate use of instructional technologies.
The Instructional Technologist aides in the support and training of online instructional technologies, particularly those integrated into the Learning Management System (LMS). This position reports directly to the Manager of eLearning. Major areas of responsibility and corresponding activities may include, but are not limited to:
A. Identify, develop, and implement instructional strategies, instructional software and other educational technologies that enhance student learning and engagement in all course modalities: 1. Serve as a professional resource to faculty for implementation of digital learning tools. 2, Assist faculty in the setup of educational technologies within their courses. 3, Advise faculty on how best to incorporate educational technologies into their course assessment plans. 4. Work with faculty and staff on increasing the accessibility of their course technology and activities. 5. Analyze the characteristics of emerging technologies and their potential use. 6. Lead project initiatives that improve instructional technology across all modalities of course delivery.
B. Design and implement faculty training on instructional technologies in multiple modalities. 1. Collaborate with eLearning team members and TLC to schedule and deliver faculty training on instructional technologies. 2. Design, create, and maintain materials for faculty training on the integration and use of instructional technologies for all course modalities. 3, Develop and curate instructional tutorials, videos, and other job aides.
C. Provide technical support to faculty, staff, students, and administrators. 1. Serve in an advanced technical support capacity working in collaboration with the eLearning Support Supervisor and Learning Management Technology Coordinator. 2. Provide instructional technology support in a variety of locations including the Teaching and Learning Center (TLC) and the eLearning offices.
D. Assume other duties as assigned by the eLearning Manager.
Some evening hours (5:00-7:00pm) may be required.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications: Associates Degree in Educational or Information Technology, Education, or a related field. 3-5 years of experience supporting education technology tools and systems. Experience providing technical support in an educational setting (preference for experience with Canvas, Yuja, Blackboard Ally, DesignPLUS). Technical writing skills and the and the ability to draft support and training documentation. Ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing multiple priorities in a dynamic environment. Commitment to continuous learning and professional development in the field of educational technology. Effective communication skills for training and collaboration.
Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree or higher in Educational Technology, Information Systems, or a related field. Experience integrating new tools into a Learning Management System. Experience teaching online or in the classroom. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a focus on customer service and user support. Experience in developing and delivering technology training programs for diverse audiences. Knowledge of educational technology trends.
