Our faculty and attending physicians provide deep competency across all specialties, including electrophysiology and arrhythmia management, structural heart disorders, transplantation, stem cell therapy, congenital heart disease, women's heart health, advanced heart disease, and hypertension.
Advanced Heart Rhythm Care in LA
If your heart rhythm doesn’t feel normal, cardiac electrophysiology helps diagnose and treat the condition, also called an arrhythmia. At the Smidt Heart Institute, our heart rhythm specialists provide comprehensive cardiac electrophysiology care, including catheter ablation and cardiac device therapy, using a personalized, leading‑edge approach.
Under the supervision of a Cardiac Electrophysiologist and within the Nurse Practitioner's competence, the Nurse Practitioner provides specialized services to clinical electrophysiology patients. This includes managing and treating cardiac rhythm disorders such as atrial fibrillation, ventricular tachycardia, and other complex arrhythmias. The Nurse Practitioner is responsible for the planning and coordination of all aspects of the workup and care of patients referred to the electrophysiology service.
Responsibilities
Acquire and perform history and physical examinations Record and interpret pertinent data (i.e., labs, diagnostic studies, discharge summaries, progress notes, etc.), including writing orders and discharges, evaluating, treating, and diagnosing patients under the supervision of a licensed physician. Coordinate ongoing overall patient care with physician staff, nursing staff, and other ancillary care providers to ensure treatment plans are implemented Assist or perform bedside procedures within the scope of service Maintain communication with patients and families regarding care Demonstrates skills and knowledge necessary to deliver care appropriate to adult and geriatric patients, including knowledge of growth and development, the ability to obtain and interpret information to identify patient needs, and provide the care needed Perform assigned work safely, adhering to established departmental safety rules and practices Perform other related duties as required Participation in Quality activities, including Unit Practice Committees
Qualifications
Education:
Master of Nursing Degree. Graduate of an accredited Nurse practitioner program approved by the California Board of Registered. Experience:
One year of experience as a Nurse Practitioner in Cardiac Electrophysiology, specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of arrhythmias. Licensure/Certifications Requirements:
Current CA RN License. Nurse Practitioner and Furnishing License. National Certification as a Nurse Practitioner. Current DEA License. Current ACLS required.
