The  Malaghan Institute of Medical Research  is New Zealand’s leading independent biomedical research institute, with a focus on breakthrough discoveries in immunology and immunotherapy. We have over 150 staff committed to finding cures for diseases using the body’s own immune system. Through the  Hugh Green Technology Centre , the Institute provides advanced technology platforms and specialised services that support translational research and clinical trials. Bioanalytical Services (BAS),  based within the Hugh Green Technology Centre at the Malaghan Institute of Medical Research, provides reliable, accredited bioanalytical support to New Zealand’s clinical trials and research sector. The team specialises in the processing and analysis of biological samples, enabling researchers and trial sponsors to generate high-quality, reproducible data that supports translational research and improved health outcomes. BAS is accredited by IANZ to the ISO/IEC 17025 international standard, reflecting a strong commitment to technical excellence, quality assurance, and robust laboratory practices. Current accredited services include serum, plasma and peripheral blood mononuclear cell (PBMC) processing, as well as genomic DNA extraction from whole blood, all delivered through validated and quality-controlled workflows. The team also aims to bring flow cytometry under accreditation in 2026. About the Role The Territory Development Manager will help grow Malaghan’s Bioanalytical Services by building strong relationships across the New Zealand clinical trials ecosystem. This role focuses on engaging with clinical trial providers, CROs, clinicians, and investigator-led research teams to promote the Institute’s bioanalytical capabilities and develop new service opportunities. The role works closely with the Chief Technology Officer, the Bioanalytical Services team, and Business Development & Commercialisation to ensure commercial opportunities align with the Institute’s scientific capabilities and strategic priorities. The successful candidate will actively represent Malaghan’s services across New Zealand, helping research teams and trial sponsors access high-quality sample processing, immune monitoring, and analytical services. This is a fixed term, part-time role (0.2 FTE/ 8 hours)  for an initial 2 years, based at the Malaghan Institute of Medical Research in Kelburn, Wellington. There will be some flexibility to work remotely and travel as part of the responsibilities of the role. Ngā kawenga | Key Responsibilities: Relationship Development & Stakeholder Engagement -  Build, develop, and maintain strong national and regional (Australia/New Zealand) relationships with clinical trial sites, principal investigators, clinicians, contract research organisations (CROs), and sponsor organisations to generate new business opportunities for Bioanalytical Services (BAS). Territory Development & Pipeline Growth  - Identify, track, and actively pursue clinical trial opportunities across New Zealand and Australia. Maintain a strong understanding of the clinical trials landscape to guide future forecasting, and proactively position BAS services and help convert qualified leads. Market Intelligence & Opportunity Identification -  Maintain awareness of local and regional clinical trial activity, funding flows, and emerging therapeutic areas. Use this insight to inform outreach strategies, prioritise targets, and contribute to BAS growth strategy. Representation & Promotion of Services -  Represent BAS and the Malaghan Institute at conferences, industry meetings, and networking events. This includes staffing exhibition booths to promote BAS capabilities and build brand visibility. Client Engagement & Solution Development -  Engage with prospective clients to understand their study needs and align BAS capabilities to support clinical trial delivery. Work closely with scientific and technical teams to ensure proposed services are feasible, competitive, and aligned with Institute strengths. CRM & Pipeline Management -  Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all interactions, opportunities, and pipeline activity within the CRM system. Track progress against targets and provide regular reporting on business development activities and outcomes. Internal Collaboration -  Work closely with the Chief Technology Officer, Bioanalytical Services team, and Business Development & Commercialisation team to align business development activities with scientific capabilities, operational capacity, and strategic priorities. National Coverage -  Undertake regular travel across New Zealand to support relationship development, attend industry events, and engage with key stakeholders.
