Cape Town Based | Scale-Up | Full-time Role | Revenue Machine | Hiring Manager:  Chris Hellmann The Sales Development Representative role is focused on generating qualified opportunities for our revenue team by prospecting, engaging, and booking meetings with potential employer customers. Jem  runs an always-on hiring approach for this role. We are not actively hiring an SDR right now, but we keep this opportunity live to connect with exceptional future talent. Jem is a fast-growing HR tech scale-up building payroll, HR and benefits tools for frontline teams. We support deskless workforces across South Africa and are scaling rapidly. This is an entry-level to early-career commercial role focused on pipeline creation. You will be responsible for opening new conversations, qualifying prospects and consistently delivering high-quality meetings into the sales team. ⭐️  Your Mission Create a strong and consistent flow of qualified sales opportunities. Prospect into the market, engage decision-makers, and book meetings that convert into revenue. ⭐️ What Success Looks Like A consistent volume of qualified outbound meetings booked each month A healthy, accurate, and well-managed CRM and pipeline High show rates and strong meeting-to-opportunity conversion Clear understanding of Jem’s ideal customer profile and buying signals Strong internal reputation for quality leads and reliable execution ⭐️ What You'll Do Prospect into target accounts through cold calls, email, LinkedIn, networking, and research Identify and qualify potential employer customers Run discovery conversations to understand business needs and pain points Book meetings for Account Executives and support handover into the sales process Follow up on leads and nurture early-stage prospects Maintain accurate CRM records of activity, notes, and pipeline Report on activity levels, meeting volume, and conversion metrics Attend events and networking sessions to generate leads Share structured feedback from the market with the sales and product teams ⭐️ You'll Thrive Here If You Enjoy opening conversations and building new relationships Are motivated by targets, activity, and commercial outcomes Are organised, resilient, and comfortable with rejection Care about selling with integrity and understanding customer problems Want to build a long-term career in sales or commercial leadership Work well in fast-moving, high-ownership environments ⭐️ Requirements At least 1 year of experience in B2B, SaaS, or technology sales Proven ability to generate and qualify new leads Strong written and verbal communication skills Experience using CRM tools, ideally HubSpot Comfort working in a startup or scale-up environment Strong work ethic and commission-driven mindset ⭐️ What you can Expect From Us Hybrid work environment with a 3-day office policy in our Cape Town offices. Competitive salary (R22,000 - R27,000 monthly base salary depending on experience and fit, plus commission with on-target earnings of R12,000 with no cap on commission) Great Benefits (lunch 4 times a week, medical aid contribution, retirement annuity contribution, etc.)and 22 days of annual leave.
