Description

Role Overview Behavior Technician (BT) provides direct behavioral and instructional support to students under the supervision of a Behavior Analyst (BA). The role focuses on implementing individualized behavior intervention plans, supporting skill development, and promoting positive behavior. The Behavior Technician works closely with teachers, therapists, and families to ensure consistent, effective support and to help students access learning in an inclusive environment. Key Responsibilities Implementation of Intervention Implement behavior intervention plans (BIPs) and skill acquisition programs as designed by the BCBA Provide one-to-one and small group support through push-in and pull-out models Support students in developing communication, social, academic, and self-regulation skills Use evidence-based strategies to reduce challenging behaviors and promote positive alternatives Support the implementation of accommodations and classroom strategies Data Collection & Monitoring Collect and record accurate data on student behavior and progress Follow data collection procedures consistently and with fidelity Share data with the supervising BCBA to inform decision-making Monitor student responses to interventions and report concerns or changes Collaboration and Communication Work collaboratively with teachers and support staff to ensure consistency of strategies Communicate effectively with the supervising BA regarding implementation and progress Support communication with families as directed Participate in team meetings, training sessions, and student reviews Student Support and Supervision Support students’ academic engagement and participation in lessons Promote positive behavior and social interactions Supervise students during classes, transitions, and assigned duties Ensure student safety and wellbeing at all times Professional Responsibilities Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical guidelines Participate in ongoing training and supervision requirements Maintain RBT certification and complete required professional development Follow school policies and procedures Carry out additional duties as reasonably assigned Key Outcomes Behavior intervention plans are implemented consistently and with fidelity Students demonstrate measurable improvements in behavior, engagement, and skill development Accurate and reliable data supports effective decision-making Students increase independence, self-regulation, and social skills Staff collaboration ensures consistent and effective support across settings A positive and inclusive learning environment is maintained Personal Specifications Qualifications and Experience Behavior Technician (RTB or IBT) certification (required or willingness to obtain) Bachelor’s degree or relevant experience in education, psychology, or related field (preferred) Experience working with children with behavioral or learning needs Skills and Attributes Basic understanding of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) principles Ability to follow behavior plans and implement interventions accurately Strong observational and data collection skills Effective communication and teamwork skills Patient, calm, and responsive to student needs Personal Qualities Commitment to supporting student growth and inclusion Positive, caring, and empathetic approach Reliable, flexible, and professional Willingness to learn and take direction from supervisors Collaborative and supportive team member
