Description

Overview The Speech-Language Pathologist I is an early career professional who provides direct patient/student care for assessing and treating communication (i.e., speech, language, literacy), cognitive/learning, oral motor, and feeding/swallowing disorders. This position will provide speech-language pathology (SLP) services in accordance with departmental, regulatory, and their program-specific function*, maintain documentation related to services offered, and participate in intra- and interdisciplinary training programs. (*e.g., school-based positions: services are implemented as detailed in the Individualized Education Plan (IEP) for each student). Responsibilities Provide comprehensive diagnostic evaluations and intervention programs consistent with contemporary, evidence-based practice in speech-language pathology and departmental quality standards, soliciting and incorporating the needs, interests, and objectives of the patient/student (as appropriate) and family. Collaborate with the family, medical and clinical providers, school/educational personnel, and other clinical or educational care team members, to ensure continuum of care for the child and optimization of services. All interactions are non-judgmental and based upon mutual respect. Maintain documentation and complete case management activities consistent with Institute and Department expectations, as well as guidelines and requirements from The Joint Commission (JC), the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF), and/or the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE), and the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). Participate in intra-disciplinary and interdisciplinary activities related to patient/student care (e.g., team conferences; student conferences – school team) and professional training (e.g., staff development activities). Demonstrate leadership and participate in systematic, professional development to improve the clinical, educational, research, and advocacy goals of the Department and Institute. Qualifications Must possess and maintain full licensure as a Speech-Language Pathologist from the Maryland Board of Audiologists, Hearing Aid Dispensers & Speech-Language Pathologists. Must possess and maintain the Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology granted by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). Must possess and maintain cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification within three months of training/date of hire. For school positions: Must achieve and maintain Professional Crisis Management (PCM) training certification at the appropriate level and according to the timeline established within departmental policy. Opportunities for training will be provided by the department. EDUCATION: Master’s degree in communication science/communication disorders/speech-language pathology required. EXPERIENCE: Completion of the Clinical Fellowship Year in speech–language pathology required. Additional coursework, training, or experience in complex pediatric speech-language, cognitive-communicative, and/or oral motor/feeding/swallowing disorders preferred. Minimum pay range USD $37.50/Hr. Maximum pay range USD $51.08/Hr.
