Description
Essential Functions: Investigate environmental complaints and related problems to determine cause and secure corrective action, and write reports summarizing the work performed. Conduct or oversee field analyses and sampling, utilizing field sampling and testing equipment and techniques; inspect facilities that discharge stormwater and wastewater to MSD and perform follow up activities to address user questions, violations, or problems. Assist in the identification of industries to be added to the District's databases. Sends and processes industry questionnaires and other required industry reports. Inspects hauled waste delivery documents and wastewater quality. Responds to emergency sewage bypasses and hazard material discharges, and initiates remedial action to minimize environmental impact. Makes required reports to MDNR. Inspects natural watercourses and storm sewers for illicit discharges, water quality problems, and unsatisfactory conditions. Initiates enforcement actions, such as Notices of Violations; develops and maintains other files and records, as needed.
Additional Responsibilities:
Performs related work as required or as delegated by supervisor.
Qualifications
Training and Experience:
60 college credit hours and two years of progressively responsible sub-
professional engineering, regulatory or environmental experience.
Desirable Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Considerable knowledge of chemistry, hydraulics and mechanics as related to wastewater collection and treatment, and storm water drainage. Considerable knowledge of environmental regulations. Ability to maintain records, write reports, and use computer mapping and database systems. Ability to meet and deal effectively with industry officials, regulators, and the public.
Special Requirements:
Must possess a valid driver's license issued by the state in which employee resides.
Pursuant to MSD's "Substance Abuse policy and Procedures," this position has been designated safety
sensitive and candidate must pass a Non-D.O.T. Drug Test for this position. Employees occupying this
position are not subject to Federal (D.O.T.) Drug and Alcohol Testing Regulations.
Must be able to provide transportation for field work.
Employees of MSD must have a meets expectations.
