Description

Job Brief: The Server Engineer will be responsible for the management of Linux and Virtualization server infrastructure across physical and virtual environments. The ideal candidate will provide 24x7 shift based support of engineering solutions, design and configure Linux systems, and handle all upgrades and security patches within agreed maintenance windows. They will implement changes and new features to support and secure the Linux infrastructure under the guidance of the Enterprise Infrastructure Operations Engineering team. Beyond deep infrastructure expertise, we expect this engineer to bring meaningful AI fluency to their practice — applying AI-assisted automation, intelligent monitoring, and LLM-based tooling to reduce operational toil, accelerate root-cause analysis, and improve the reliability and security posture of the environments they manage. VentureDive Overview: Founded in 2012 by veteran technology entrepreneurs from MIT and Stanford, VentureDive is the fastest-growing technology company in the region that develops and invests in products and solutions that simplify and improve the lives of people worldwide. We aspire to create a technology organization and an entrepreneurial ecosystem in the region that is recognized as second to none in the world. Key Responsibilities Infrastructure Engineering & Operations Application integration, architecture, engineering, and support of in-house and vendor remote servers and storage systems. Provide 24x7 production support of appliances and all related supporting systems. Design, implement, and support computing systems — both physical and virtual — including configuration, maintenance, and ongoing engineering tasks. Design, configure, and tune highly available Linux systems to meet uptime and performance SLAs. Perform routine system administration to maintain all Linux and Virtualization servers. Maintain OS and application patch levels across all systems using automated tooling. Participate in deployments, upgrades, and planned maintenance windows. Perform other duties as assigned by respective line managers. Architecture, Automation & Standardization Recommend, design, and implement systems management and automation solutions. Drive standardization, optimization, and automation of infrastructure systems at scale. Assist in implementing, executing, maintaining, and documenting DR/BC and high availability procedures. Support client application development — determining required patches, packages, permissions, and software configurations. Coordinate with Security, Operations/Engineering, and other functional teams to maintain standards when systems are customized for client development. Lead production support of new engineering solutions and infrastructure initiatives. AI-Augmented Infrastructure Operations Use AI coding assistants (GitHub Copilot, Claude, ChatGPT, or equivalent) to accelerate the development and review of Bash, Python, Ansible, and Terraform scripts — reducing manual effort in automation authoring. Apply AI-powered observability and AIOps platforms (e.g., Dynatrace, Datadog AI, Moogsoft, or equivalent) for intelligent anomaly detection, predictive alerting, and automated root-cause analysis across Linux and virtual environments. Leverage LLM-based tools to auto-generate runbooks, system documentation, post-incident reports, and DR/BC procedure guides from existing configurations and incident histories. Use AI-assisted security scanning tools (e.g., Lacework, Wiz, or AI-enhanced SIEM) to surface misconfigurations, CVE exposure, and compliance drift across large server fleets. Apply AI-driven log analysis tools to speed up diagnostics across high-volume syslog, kernel, and application log streams. Critically evaluate all AI-generated scripts and configurations for correctness, security implications, and infrastructure impact before deploying to production. Contribute to team practices around responsible AI use in infrastructure operations, including validation workflows and change-management guardrails for AI-assisted changes. Qualifications & Experience Core Infrastructure Skills Graduate degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent. 5–7 years of experience engineering and supporting Linux (RHEL/Ubuntu) and Virtualization (VMware / RHEV / KVM) in large-scale environments. Demonstrated experience with advanced configurations: high availability, SAN/NAS storage, FC switches, virtualization, and performance tuning. Experience deploying Linux on x86 rack-mount server and blade platforms. Experience connecting Linux systems to enterprise storage — solid understanding of SAN and NAS use cases. Experience connecting Linux systems to TCP/IP networks — configuration, troubleshooting, and tuning. Strong Linux security skills: hardening, auditing, access control, and vulnerability management. Experience setting up and deploying systems with Red Hat Satellite. Strong scripting skills in Bash, Python, Perl, PHP, or equivalent languages. Hands-on experience implementing automation tools: Terraform, Ansible, Puppet, Chef, CFEngine, or equivalent. Experience supporting enterprise-class applications, databases, and production development efforts. Experience working within a dynamic R&D environment, supporting researchers or multinational IT environments. Ability to be on-call 24x7 and manage multiple simultaneous projects with minimal supervision. Demonstrated use of AI tools to assist with infrastructure scripting, automation authoring, or operational documentation in a professional context. Ability to craft effective prompts for generating and reviewing infrastructure-as-code, system configuration scripts, and Ansible playbooks. Strong critical judgment in reviewing AI-generated scripts and configs — assessing correctness, idempotency, security exposure, and production-readiness before applying. Familiarity with AIOps or AI-enhanced monitoring platforms and an understanding of how to operationalize their findings within an incident management workflow. Awareness of AI-assisted vulnerability scanning or compliance tooling for Linux fleet management is a strong plus. Soft Skills & Professional Attributes Strong organizational and analytical skills with a methodical, disciplined approach to problem-solving. Dependable, reliable, and accountable — takes ownership of systems and issues through to resolution. Able to work both independently and as an effective member of cross-functional teams. Clear communicator across technical and non-technical stakeholders. Proactive in researching, evaluating, and adopting new infrastructure technologies. Growth mindset with genuine curiosity about AI-driven operations and evolving infrastructure automation practices. What we look for beyond required skills In order to thrive at VentureDive, you …are intellectually smart and curious …have the passion for and take pride in your work …deeply believe in VentureDive’s mission, vision, and values …have a no-frills attitude …are a collaborative team player …are ethical and honest Are you ready to put your ideas into products and solutions that will be used by millions?
