Our work advances evidence-based teaching and learning, supports the design and implementation of innovative learning models, engages partners in co-design, and helps shape the conditions under which powerful learning can flourish across schools, districts, and states. role About the Position The Deputy Director of Policy is a cross-functional leader operating at the nexus of policy, practice, research, and implementation. This role is central to advancing Powerful Learning across schools, districts, and states by shaping and executing an external learning agenda. Unlike execution-focused roles, the Deputy Director works at the highest strategic levels to translate vision into actionable operational roadmaps, scalable systems, and funder-ready concepts. This position focuses on high-level partnership architecture and building coalitions that support long-term systems change. The Deputy Director will drive day-to-day internal alignment across functional groups through active participation in the leadership team, directly supporting and developing other leaders and managers to execute the broader vision Team Oversight and People Management (Culture and Performance) Lead the Powerful Learning Policy team , responsible for cultivating and advancing the partnerships, state and district implementation strategies, and ecosystem approaches needed to scale Powerful Learning, providing coaching, direction, and a vision aligned to Impact Goals. Ensure organizational health and cultivate a positive and inclusive workplace culture and employee experience. Ensure all team members have the knowledge, skills, and attributes needed to fulfill their day-to-day responsibilities; ensure all team members understand their critical role in the overall organization. Provide direction and support to team members specific to the issues and opportunities that come from their responsibilities; intervene as needed to course-correct. Support Senior Director to hire and develop team personnel. Contribute positively to the culture of the functional group, team and organization based on our team values and commitments Oversee and delegate appropriately to a team of direct reports and external consultants responsible for executing on: Engaging State Education Agencies (SEAs) and Local Education Agencies (LEAs) in the adoption and implementation of Powerful Learning. Translating research, practice, and field learning into scalable system design. Monitoring state and national developments related to education policy, implementation conditions, and emerging technologies like AI in education. Building coalitions that support durable field adoption and long-term systems change. Fundraising Facilitate cross-team planning to package innovative field insights into structured, funder-ready concepts and measurable outcomes. Support the development of national, state, and philanthropic funding. Translate cross team initiatives into high-impact proposals or pitches for funders, while building and deepening strategic partnerships to expand the initiative's scope. Manage day-to-day budgets, contract lifecycles, and resource allocations to ensure operational efficiency. Strategic Partnerships & Ecosystem Scale Engage State Education Agencies (SEAs) and Local Education Agencies (LEAs) in the adoption and implementation of Powerful Learning. Build coalitions that support durable field adoption and long-term systems change. Oversee and delegate appropriately to a team of direct reports and external consultants. Policy, Innovation, and Systems Change Translate research, practice, and field learning into scalable system design. Monitor state and national developments related to education policy, implementation conditions, and emerging technologies like AI in education. Manage competing priorities, track milestones and risks, and rapidly adapt execution frameworks to changing field and district requests. Cross-Team Coherence: Drive day-to-day internal alignment across functional groups through active participation in the leadership team and modeling team values to ensure seamless planning, knowledge sharing, and operational execution. Workforce Planning: Forecast capacity needs to deliver on strategic plans; make data-driven talent decisions, from staff development to coaching out underperformance. Personnel & Manager Development: Provide rigorous coaching and accountability; build systems to support ongoing manager development and team learning needs. Agile Project Stewardship: Manage competing priorities, track milestones and risks, and rapidly adapt execution frameworks to changing field and district requests. Financial & Resource Control: Manage day-to-day budgets, contract lifecycles, and resource allocations to ensure operational efficiency. Ideation & Funder Readiness: Facilitate cross-team planning to package innovative field insights into structured, funder-ready concepts and measurable outcomes. Fundraising: Support the development of national, state, and philanthropic funding by translating cross team initiatives into high-impact proposals or pitches for funders, while building and deepening strategic partnerships to expand the initiative's scope. Project Management Effectively manages competing priorities and leads projects with a strict focus on quality, timelines, and adapting to changing needs. Proactively keeps stakeholders informed, mitigates risks, and motivates cross-functional teams to achieve project milestones and advance Digital Promise’s equity goals. Impact Goals Monitor, track, and report progress on relevant goals, for self and direct reports Core Competencies Analytical & Problem Solving: Utilizes data and research to adapt to changing project needs, troubleshoot issues, and develop effective solutions. Core Deputy Responsibilities Strategic Operationalization: Translate high-level vision for all strategic areas into actionable operational roadmaps, concrete workflows, and scalable systems for how functional groups contribute and collaborate to execute strategy while managing internal evaluations to measure programmatic impact and effectiveness. Relationship Management: Highly collaborative and organized, with a proven ability to build strong internal and external partnerships to drive execution. Communication: Demonstrates active listening, clear written and verbal communication, and effective use of workplace tools (e.g., Slack, Asana) to foster strong interpersonal connections. Continuous Learning: Actively pursues professional development, stays current with industry trends, and builds diverse internal and external networks. Working Conditions Digital Promise Global is a hybrid organization. The position is primarily working in a remote environment. Employees are expected to travel at least 4 times a year for in-person meetings and the annual staff retreat. Additional travel may be required based on role and responsibilities. Compensation We consider candidate experience and location when determining where a candidate may fall within that range. Digital Promise Global offers a competitive total rewards package including coverage of 85% of health insurance premiums for employee coverage and 75% of health insurance premiums for dependent and family coverage, 15 vacation days, 12 sick days, 3% 401k employer contribution, 3% employer 401k match, and a flexible work environment. The full-time salary range for the position is based on geographical regions, with exact salary depending on relevant experience.
