Position : Health and Safety Officer Shift: 40 hours , full-time Department : Quality & Safety Location : Richmond, BC, Canada Reports to : Manager, Quality & Safety Purpose: As a Health and Safety Officer, you will play a key role in maintaining and improving safety performance across our organization. You will focus on construction safety (60%), with additional responsibilities in workplace safety (30%) and administrative/quality support (10%), ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations while supporting initiatives within the Quality & Safety Department. This role requires proactive, detail oriented individual who can collaborate with teams across multiple departments and global construction sites to strengthen safety programs, prevent incidents, and support continuous improvement. ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Safety Leadership & Oversight Drive the development of a proactive safety culture that prioritizes prevention, transparency, and accountability. Lead safety across local operations and on-site construction by setting clear expectations and reinforcing compliance. Own and continuously improve the implementation of safety processes across the organization. Partner with project teams, site leadership, and operations to strengthen safety accountability. Identify and escalate significant safety risks or process breakdowns in a timely manner. On-Site Construction Safety Maintain WhiteWater’s on-site safety approach in alignment with ISO 45001 principles. Ensure clarity of WhiteWater’s safety expectations and responsibilities when working with site advisors. Ensure consistent use of; site safety orientations, hazard assessments, toolbox talks, and safe work methods. Conduct site visits and audits to evaluate compliance and effectiveness of safety practices. Review site safety documentation, reports, and incident investigations. Capture lessons learned from projects and apply them to support continuous improvement. Ensure site safety documentation and practices comply with applicable local, regional, and international regulatory requirements across diverse project locations. Local Workplace Safety Manage workplace safety processes in compliance with WorkSafeBC requirements. Oversee workplace hazard assessments and inspections to ensure they remain current. Coordinate and deliver workplace safety training sessions to reinforce safe work practices and regulatory requirements. Support the Joint Occupational Safety & Health (JOSH) Committees and help maintain it’s effectiveness. Oversee emergency preparedness activities, drills, and first aid requirements. Safety Processes, Documentation & Training Maintain core safety processes and keep them practical and current. Keep safety documentation, procedures, and records organized and up to date. Manage safety training requirements, including training matrix and certification tracking. Ensure completion of safety orientations for new employees and site personnel. Track and analyze safety performance metrics to identify trends and support continuous improvement. Monitor and follow up on safety actions and ensure effective closure. QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Construction Safety, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Familiarity with ISO 9001, ISO 14001, or ISO 45001 standards is desirable. ISO 9001, ISO 14001, or ISO 45001 Lead Auditor (or equivalent certification) is highly desirable. 3-5 years of experience in occupational health and safety, construction safety, or industrial safety roles. Knowledge of industry regulations, codes, and standards, including WorkSafeBC, ASTM, EN, and ISO standards, and OSHA regulations, is desirable. Proven ability to conduct safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments in both manufacturing and construction environments is a must. Proficiency in safety documentation management practices, including the organization and maintenance of safety procedures, hazard assessments, and training records is a must. COMPETENCIES, SKILLS & ABILITIES: Excellent organizational and administrative skills with the ability to work with minimum direction and coordinate multiple projects simultaneously with keen attention to detail. Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to develop and maintain effective internal and external working relationships at all levels of the organization. Proven ability to work well with diverse groups. Strong time management and prioritization skills. Excellent problem-solving abilities.
