REPORTS TO: Associate Dean of Academic Affairs
WORK SCHEDULE: Per Semester/Course Contract
COMPENSATION: $1,150 to $1,725 per credit, determined by education credentials
EXPECTED START DATE: August 18, 2026

SUMMARY OF POSITION:
Teaches the below courses within the Academic Affairs Program in Fall 2026. Fall semester begins 8/18/26 and concludes 11/26/26. Please visit https://catalog.ilisagvik.edu/ for a full course description:

HIM 210 : ICD-10 CM Coding (3 credits)
This course reviews the role of the coding professional, the history of classification systems with emphasis on the basic rules and guidelines of the International Classification of Disease, Ninth Revision, Clinical Modification (ICD-10-CM). This course will review the purpose and use the structure and conventions of ICD-10-CM. Detailed study will cover coding procedures in assigning ICD-10-CM codes for diagnosis and procedures with emphasis on coding in the inpatient care setting, coding compliance programs, performance measurement, staff recruiting and retention, and coding for reimbursement.
HIM 211 : CPD-4 Coding (3 credits)
This course reviews the basic principles, characteristics, and conventions of coding with the current procedural terminology (CPT), nomenclature and introduces the concept of compliance programs including auditing and monitoring, compliance considerations unique to certain healthcare settings, and CMS initiatives to reduce Medicare payment errors and high-risk areas for fraud/abuse enforcement.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Prepares and maintains updated instructional materials, course outlines, and curriculum.
Develops and submits current syllabus, using the college template.
Prepares administrative documents, such as student withdrawals and attendance.
Evaluates student performance and submits grades to the registrar.
Maintain office hours (in-person, telephonically, or online).
Participates in professional development as necessary to be proficient in the college’s current technologies and learning platform.
Complies with College policies, procedures and administrative directives, as well as state, federal, and local laws, regulations, and ordinances.
Performs other related duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
Demonstrated professional and/or teaching experience in the subject area.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Proficient in MS Office Word, Excel or PowerPoint.
Demonstrated teaching experience in a post-secondary environment.
Demonstrated experience in curriculum development.
Demonstrated experience with distance delivery.
Demonstrated ability to interact effectively in a multicultural environment.
Ability to pass a pre-employment background check.
Demonstrated knowledge in one or more of the following areas: post-secondary educational systems, North Slope Borough [NSB] institutions and organizations; Iñupiat culture, language, values, and traditions.
Ability to interpret and represent North Slope community values, customs, and beliefs for the College.
Ability to interpret and represent College actions and western institutions to the North Slope community.
Ability to support Iḷisaġvik College’s mission.
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATES/TRAINING [Required]:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in the area of instruction or related field.
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATES/TRAINING [Preferred]:
Doctorate degree or equivalent in the area of instruction.
