Location - This role is hybrid with a mix of remote and in-person work at North Campus Edmonton.
Position Overview
Reporting to the Director, Community & International Education in the Faculty of Kinesiology, Sport, and Recreation, the eLearning Specialist is a project-based position whose main responsibility is the creation of effective online learning tools and courses for the Faculty.
The Faculty will use this position to promote and integrate online learning tools and instructional technology and courses throughout its programs. Over the course of the term, this position will work with over 20 Faculty and ATS instructors and various staff on course development, evaluation tools, and support and promotion of online teaching.
This position will be required to work in a diverse and complex working environment and have the ability to communicate and gather information effectively and efficiently in a variety of situations.
This position will also work on projects directed by the Director of ICE to design specific courses, micro-credentials, and/or professional development work for the Faculty.
Responsibilities
Collaborate with subject matter experts to transform course content into interactive, engaging online courses for both credit and non-credit programs.
Move face-to-face delivery to online or blended delivery using interactive learning objectives, periodic formative feedback, interactive quizzes and other tools deemed appropriate and proven successful in an online learning environment.
Ensure that online courses reflect content accurately, are delivered in a pedagogically-sound manner and provide appropriate evaluative tools.
Advise and assist Faculty and staff with evaluating or implementing online teaching tools and related academic technologies.
Coach and provide best practices to individual faculty members and instructors on the integration of eLearning technology within the Faculty of KSR.
Design appropriate instructional strategies to meet faculty and student needs and learning objectives.
Establish success measures to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of all training and developmental programs and make recommendations for improvements or modifications.
Work with faculty members to develop online learning modules using course authoring platforms, including but not limited to: consultation on best practices, training faculty members on the platform and development of the online modules, along with subsequent reviews and revisions to ensure online content meets accessibility standards, University brand guidelines, and faculty/student comments or feedback.
Qualifications
Undergraduate degree or equivalent in instructional design, educational technology, training and development, teaching and learning in higher education or a related field, combined with training and experience in professional development and eLearning applications or other online collaboration tools. Minimum 2 years’ experience in technology enhanced educational environments. Demonstrated competency in developing instructional material in various online formats (written, video, other) and experience in creating online learning courses. Knowledge of educational multimedia design tools such as Adobe Creative Suite or similar tools to create, manipulate, edit and produce audio, video, and images. Strong project management, prioritization and multitasking skills. Strong organizational skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail and the ability to make timely decisions and act on individual initiative. Ability to work independently and in a team environment. Knowledge of current best practices in instructional design and curriculum development. Knowledge of standards and specifications including IMS, SCORM and accessibility. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Preferred Qualifications
Work experience in post-secondary education. Knowledge and demonstrated ability in Adobe Creative Suite, audio and video editing, and mark-up languages such as HTML and CSS. Knowledge and demonstrated ability in learning development tools such as Articulate, Camtasia, Captivate, Presenter, Adobe Connect, E-portfolios, Moodle, eClass, Canvas, Google Suite, student response systems. Knowledge and demonstrated ability in mobile learning assessment technologies.
