This position will properly visually inspect weld work and performs repairs on defective welds.  They will provide training assistance to other welders that need development. This position will be required to operate and forklift and crane.</p>\n<p> </p>\n<p><strong>Duties and Responsibilities</strong></p>\n<p><em>To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform the following essential duties satisfactorily. Other duties may be assigned to address business needs and changing business practices.</em></p>\n<ul>\n <li>Performs the most complicated manual or semi-automatic arc welding of railcar parts welding on the pressure vessel, sub-assemblies, and assemblies on the bench, floor, or assembly line.</li>\n <li>When using weld machine, maintains heat and speed of travel to assure penetration and weld bead size.  Grinds work incidental to welding, removes weld slag, and preheats work.</li>\n <li>Visually inspects weld work, repairs defective welds, and performs minor repairs to equipment.</li>\n <li>Performs occasional air arc or flame cutting to help repair defective welds.</li>\n <li>Helps train other welders in classes 1 and 2 by conducting on-the-job training when requested.</li>\n <li>Operates forklift or hook and hitch to overhead crane to move material.</li>\n <li>Ensures that safety and housekeeping standards are met and maintained.</li>\n</ul>\n<p><strong>Qualifications</strong></p>\n<p><em>The following generally describes requirements to successfully perform the assigned duties.</em></p>\n<p> </p>\n<p><strong>Minimum Qualifications</strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li>Required to pass applicable welding tests to work as a welder, including tests for welding on a pressure vessel</li>\n <li>Ability to use weld gauges and computers</li>\n <li>Ability to read and comprehend blueprints or weld drawings and procedures</li>\n <li>Ability to work in a team</li>\n <li>Ability to learn to operate a forklift and overhead crane and complete certifications required through company training</li>\n</ul>\n<p><strong>Preferred Qualifications</strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li>High School diploma or equivalency test/GED</li>\n <li>1+ years’ experience in production welding</li>\n <li>Experience operating a forklift</li>\n <li>Experience operating an overhead crane</li>\n</ul>\n<p><strong>Work Environment and Physical Requirements</strong></p>\n<p><strong>Work Environment</strong></p>\n<p><em>The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
