Description

The primary function of the Safety Engineer is to provide support to assigned personnel and projects and to ensure projects meet current safety guidelines. The Safety Engineer will function as a resource for safety efforts on active projects and to the Safety Department and Safety Committee. This position's first project assignment will be located in Delta, Utah. The primary duties and responsibilities and of the Safety Engineer typically include, but are not limited to: Technical Implement W.E. O’Neil Injury Illness Prevention Program on assigned projects. Implement W.E. O’Neil Safety Manuel on assigned projects. Participate in project kickoff meetings. Set up and audit project safety systems. Predictive Solutions SDS Binder Subcontractor safety documents First Aid kits, etc. Assist in the development / review of site-specific safety plans Assist with developing project safety goals. Attend and participate in project meetings and assist in preparation / distribution of meeting minutes. Perform jobsite walks / inspections. Perform incident investigations. Address, follow-up, and ensure closure on issues. Provide safety knowledge to the project. Assist in the review of subcontractor programs, plans and Job Hazard Analyses Conduct jobsite safety orientations Attend and participate in W.E. O’Neil Risk Management trainings Participate in W.E. O’Neil networking events to build industry relationships. Participate in all P.E. Trainings and P.E. Bootcamps Management Champion “Safety Starts with You” culture Promote and recognize safe behavior Assist the Safety Department with the implementation of company programs Coordinate with project / safety teams to anticipate upcoming work-activities and ensure compliance with OSHA and W.E. O’Neil IIPP Discuss solutions to field problems or conflicts, and help develop practical solutions Work with the project / safety teams to schedule pre-construction meetings & training Research various safety topics as assigned by the safety team Personal Attributes Effective written and verbal language communication skills Work Efficiently – Allocate one’s own time efficiently; handle multiple demands and competing priorities; efficiently process paperwork Show initiative, strive for increased responsibility and demonstrate desire to learn Show emotional maturity, punctuality and dependability Motivate and contribute to the teamwork / morale of the project team Show the desire and willingness to progress to the Safety Manager role and responsibilities Interpersonal Attributes Establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with all project stakeholders (Owner, jurisdictional agencies, design professionals, various WEO departments, WEO project team, and subcontractors) Foster Teamwork – Participate and foster collaboration among team members and among teams Motivate Others – Encourage and empower others to achieve; build relationships; create enthusiasm, a feeling of investment, and a desire to excel Drive for Results – Drive for results and success; convey a sense of urgency and drive issues to closure; persist despite obstacles and opposition Show Work Commitment - Set high standards of performance; pursue aggressive goals and work hard to achieve them Show alignment with and promote WEO Corporate Values Qualifications Four-year degree in Occupational Safety & Health, Construction Management, or related field or minimum 1 years of relevant project field experience. Understand and effectively use company software programs, such as MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook Effective oral and written communication skills Well-developed time management and organization skills Ability to work non-routine hours as needed Ability to analyze options and problem solve creatively, while aligning with W.E. Performing this job requires use of hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls, sit, talk and hear and stand throughout the workday. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in one of WEO’s California regional offices and on occasion may be required to visit the construction work site where the employee may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, high precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, outside weather conditions and risk of electrical shock. The noise in these work environments is usually moderate to very loud. These are considered the core responsibilities of the position. Employees are encouraged to reach beyond their current responsibilities in an effort to foster professional growth, but only as they are able to remain accountable for their core responsibilities.
