Description

Overview Our mission is to provide quality healthcare in a safe environment that is sensitive and supportive to the physical, emotional, spiritual and diverse multi-cultural needs of our patients and their loved ones. We advocate the preservation of human dignity in the delivery of our services and programs. Under the direction of the CNO, the Director of Critical Care (ER & ICU) assures service development personnel management and resource allocation and management controls in order to ensure consistent high quality patient care in the Critical Care Units. The Director of Critical Care assumes 24 hour administrative responsibility for the management of all critical care nursing service functions. Supervises, assesses, plans, implements and evaluates the delivery of patient care. Develops and implements department’s plans including performance improvement activities and compliance with current regulations. Responsible for the Emergency Disaster Preparedness program. Responsibilities 1. Defines standards for the Emergency and ICU departments and develops processes to measure and ensure consistent compliance. 2. Develops, implements, and evaluates an ongoing ER & ICU programs that assure quality patient care consistent with the Hospital mission. 3. Monitors compliance with regulatory, accrediting and hospital policy for patient services, and environmental and personnel safety. 4. Oversees a PI program that consistently monitors and evaluates critical aspects of care. 5. Oversees patient satisfaction in the ER & ICU department. 6. Accurately identifies real/potential problems affecting the service and implements solutions with follow-through and communication. 7. Participates in preparing the ER & ICU department budget for the nursing department and assists nurse managers with managing approved expenditures. 8. Serves as a resource to nurses and house supervisors within and across service lines. 9. Fosters a service consistent with the patient care beliefs and Shared Management philosophy of the Department. 10. Actively participates in service, departmental and hospital-wide committees as assigned, providing ongoing communication to those represented. 11. Seeks new program strategies and/or enhancements that would expand patient services. 12. Coaches immediate subordinates by providing feedback; providing constructive critique of work; facilitating the development of their problem-solving and decision-making skills; and documenting their job performance annually. 13. Follows the progressive disciplinary action process (or oversees subordinates in doing so) to maintain productivity and/or performance standards. 14. Completes an operational budget that reflects required workload, forecasted units of service, and programmatic changes. 15. Monitors budget expenditures through accurate, objective variance analysis. 16. Develops, prioritizes and defends a capital equipment budget in collaboration with the service's medical chairman and nurse managers. 17. Is responsible for the department’s operational excellence; ensures the department delivers quality services in accordance with applicable policies, procedures and professional standards. 18. Manages human resources to assure quality services and promote positive employee relations. 19. Is responsible for the fiscal management of the department; assures proper utilization of organization’s financial resources. 20. Effectively communicates departmental, organizational, and industry information to staff. 21. Attains all agreed to goals and objectives within specified time frames, as part of the organization’s overall mission. 22. Attends all required Safety Training programs and can describe his/her responsibilities related to general safety, department/service safety, specific job-related hazards. 23. Follows the Hospital Exposure Control Plans/Bloodborne and Airborne Pathogens. 24. Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible and courteous environment. 25. Promotes effective working relations and works effectively as part of a department/unit team inter- and intradepartmentally to facilitate the department's/unit's ability to meet its goals and objectives. 26. Disaster and Emergency Preparedness Qualifications BS in Nursing preferred MS desired (in administrative services preferably) Five years of Emergency Room experience with progressive management responsibility is desired Five years in an administrative management role desired, preferably with a volume greater than 40,000 visits/year and a hospital with a Level 1 or 2 Trauma program and a Pediatric Emergency Department Current and valid California RN license BLS, ACLS, PALS and MAB certified Current Critical Care RN (CCRN) preferred. Knowledge of human resource management, program development, fiscal management skills, and familiarity with regulatory and accrediting agency standards preferred Hospital Description South El Monte community is a vibrant area in the heart of the San Gabriel Valley. For more than 40 years, Greater El Monte Community Hospital has served the region from our 117-bed facility, which is fully accredited by The Joint Commission and certified by the American Heart Association. We are an approved provider for Medi-Cal and Medicare and are among the few hospitals to meet the high standards of the General Acute Care Hospital (GACH) relicensing survey. Our services include critical care, emergency care, diagnostic services, surgery, and rehabilitation, all managed by a highly trained team dedicated to effective treatment.
