Description
The Standardized Patient (SP) Manager leads the recruitment, selection, and development of standardized patients (actors) who portray clinical cases in simulation-based education. This role involves conducting interviews, coordinating auditions, and delivering structured training to ensure SPs accurately and consistently represent scenarios aligned with program objectives. The manager coaches SPs in case portrayal, assessment techniques, and effective feedback to learners, fostering realistic medical office interactions and improving educational outcomes. In addition, the SP Manager coordinates scheduling, tracks hours for accurate payroll processing, and supports administrative tasks such as data entry and documentation. They also oversee the implementation of simulation scenarios, operate and maintain audiovisual equipment, and ensure seamless execution of simulation activities. Working collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students, the SP Manager upholds best practices, contributes to policy development, leads quality improvement initiatives, and supports research efforts within the simulation program.
Essential Functions
Key responsibilities:
• Evaluate new SPs, conduct interviews and coordinate auditions and evaluations as well as direct training sessions using standardized coaching techniques to prepare Standardized Patients (SP) for roles based on expectations for various scenarios according to the program objectives.
• Develop assessment skills with SPs to simulate a medical office environment.
• Teach SPs how to present in each situation and provide feedback.
• Track hours to ensure accurate documentation and timely processing of payment
• Provide professional skill development leading to improved educational outcomes.
• Implement simulation scenarios.
• Offer technical experience in the management of simulation equipment and AV equipment.
• Will independently operate AV equip such as video cameras, recorders, and audio.
Simulation activities and evaluation:
• Scheduling the SPs for simulation activities.
• Analyze needs and manage resources needed for the program including supplies.
• Tracks and calculates payroll hours for standardized patients and federal work students.
• Performs duties including scheduling, data entry, answering phones, meeting agendas, meeting minutes, data tracking and hours.
Administrative tasks:
• Work directly with staff, faculty, and students.
• Ensures best practices are being implemented consistently.
• Participates and leads quality improvement processes.
• Supports research activities that take place in the Center and are consistent with educational goals and objectives.
• Update and maintain policies and procedures related to standardized patient learning activities
Duties as Assigned
Qualifications:
Required:
• Bachelor’s degree (Health Education or similar preferred)
• Three + years of experience in project management/team collaboration
• Outstanding communication skills
• Demonstrated evidence of having exemplary organization and interpersonal skills
• Knowledge of innovative technologies including how to operate AV equipment
• Knowledge of medical terminology
Preferred qualifications:
• Experience in healthcare simulation
• Demonstrated knowledge of SimCapture software
• Post graduate work or a Master’s degree in a related field
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Knowledge of healthcare simulation software, hardware, and AV equipment.
• Proficiency in MS software applications including Word, Excel and PowerPoint, Internet, and database use.
• Skills in developing and maintaining inventory and maintenance records.
• Skills in training faculty and staff in the standardized patient learning activities.
• Ability to communicate information clearly and professionally to others with various backgrounds and level of technical knowledge.
• Ability to learn new skills and technology quickly and independently.
• Ability to prioritize competing tasks in an everchanging environment.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Self-motivated and require minimal oversight.
• Ability to work well under pressure, set priorities and make critical decisions.
• Ability to empathize and connect with various coworkers and stakeholders to build a positive team environment.
Licenses/Certifications:
Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE) - optional
