We do this while maintaining Akamai's mission to make life better for billions of people, billions of times a day.</p><p><b>Partner with the best</b></p><p>In this role, you'll collaborate with operations and development teams to build and manage our scalable storage platforms, including Block &amp; Object Storage. You'll create tooling to automate the lifecycle of petabyte-scale storage systems. You'll work with open-source technologies, including Ceph, to ensure Akamai's storage systems are reliable, available, and performant.</p><p>As a Principal Site Reliability Engineer - Storage, you will be responsible for:</p><ul><li class=\"lst\">Architecting new highly available storage systems and infrastructure, supporting a variety of workloads from compute customers</li><li class=\"lst\">Working with highly knowledgeable engineers to develop, test, and deploy new features supporting large enterprise workloads</li><li class=\"lst\">Engaging and networking with Ceph developers, representing Akamai in the open-source community</li><li class=\"lst\">Identifying bottlenecks within the entire tech stack, improving performance and reliability wherever possible in the OSI model</li><li class=\"lst\">Tuning Ceph, the Linux kernel, and server hardware, maximizing performance and reliability for our customers</li><li class=\"lst\">Leading hardware R&amp;D efforts to keep our storage systems on the bleeding edge, validating next-generation hardware builds</li></ul><p><b>Do what you love</b></p><p>To be successful in this role you will:</p><ul><li class=\"lst\">Have 12 years of relevant experience and a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or its equivalent</li><li class=\"lst\">Have professional experience in a Site Reliability, Development, or Systems Engineering role, with large scale distributed systems</li><li class=\"lst\">Have mastery with benchmarking tools and concepts like FIO, IOPS, throughput, 99th percentile latency, and tail latency</li><li class=\"lst\">Have experience deploying load balancing, rate limiting, throttling and traffic shaping techniques</li><li class=\"lst\">Have experience with automation tools such as Terraform, Ansible, Jenkins, or Salt Stack</li><li class=\"lst\">Have extensive experience with architecting, deploying, and running mission-critical Linux servers at scale emphasizing performance and reliability</li></ul><p><b>Work in a way that works for you</b></p><p>FlexBase, Akamai's Global Flexible Working Program, is based on the principles that are helping us create the best workplace in the world. The base salary for this position ranges from $148,200 - $307,800/year; a candidate’s salary is determined by various factors including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and location. The compensation package may also include incentive compensation opportunities in the form of annual bonus or incentives, equity awards and an Employee Stock Purchase Plan (ESPP).
