Job Title
EHS Specialist I – Night Shift (Must be able to train on days or nights)

Summary: The EHS Specialist I – Night Shift is responsible for supporting the Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) programs throughout the facility by providing employee training, compliance inspections, incident response, employee outreach, and continuous improvement initiatives. This position serves as a key resource for promoting a safe work environment, ensuring regulatory compliance, and fostering employee engagement in EHS programs. The EHS Specialist works independently while partnering closely with production, maintenance, and management teams to drive safety awareness and compliance across all shifts.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities: Environmental, Health & Safety Training • Conduct new hire onboarding and EHS orientation training for all employees.
• Facilitate annual refresher training and other required EHS training programs.
• Provide additional training and coaching related to incidents, policy violations, and identified safety concerns.
• Assist in the development, revision, and implementation of EHS training programs and materials.
• Maintain training records and documentation to ensure compliance with company and regulatory requirements.
Employee Outreach & Engagement • Promote and manage the facility incident reporting program and assist with corrective action follow-up.
• Serve as an EHS representative during departmental meetings and employee engagement activities.
• Conduct regular floor audits and employee outreach activities to identify and address safety concerns.
• Coordinate emergency evacuation drills and evaluate effectiveness, recommending improvements when necessary.
• Assist with development of weekly safety talks, bulletins, safety alerts, and employee communications.
• Develop and distribute monthly EHS awareness materials throughout the facility.
• Support employee safety committees and first responder programs through coordination, training, and participation.
Compliance & Inspection Programs • Conduct routine safety inspections throughout all departments and communicate findings to management.
• Perform environmental compliance inspections, including stormwater and SPCC inspections.
• Conduct hazardous waste accumulation area inspections and ensure regulatory compliance.
• Perform hazardous material inspections and fire prevention inspections.
• Track inspection findings and verify completion of corrective actions.
PPE Management • Manage distribution and availability of personal protective equipment (PPE) for all employees.
• Assist in determining appropriate PPE requirements based on job hazard assessments.
• Coordinate safety shoe program administration and vendor relationships.
• Monitor PPE inventory levels and evaluate PPE products for effectiveness and quality.
Cost Savings & Continuous Improvement • Identify opportunities for EHS-related cost savings initiatives.
• Collect and analyze data supporting cost savings projects and departmental KPIs.
• Prepare and report monthly EHS cost savings metrics and performance indicators.
• Participate in continuous improvement projects supporting safety, environmental, and operational objectives.
Incident Response & Investigation • Respond to EHS incidents, including bloodborne pathogen decontamination, non-hazardous spill response, and injury triage.
• Serve as a primary communication resource for EHS incident information.
• Participate in incident investigations and root cause analysis activities.
• Develop and communicate corrective actions resulting from incident investigations.
• Support implementation and verification of corrective actions throughout the facility.
Environmental & Special Projects • Coordinate non-hazardous waste disposal programs and collection processes.
• Support facility recycling initiatives, including management of waste streams, batteries, absorbents, and other recyclable materials.
• Assist with environmental compliance projects and special assignments as directed by EHS leadership.
• Support implementation of new EHS initiatives, policies, and procedures.
Education & Experience: • Associate degree or higher in Environmental Health & Safety, Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or a related field preferred.
• Equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience may be considered.
• Experience in manufacturing, environmental, health, and safety, or related technical fields preferred.
• Experience delivering training or leading employee development programs preferred.
Preferred Qualifications: • ASP (Associate Safety Professional) certification preferred.
• OSHA 10-Hour and/or OSHA 30-Hour certification preferred.
• OSHA Authorized Trainer certification preferred.
• Knowledge of OSHA regulations, environmental compliance requirements, and EHS management systems.
• Experience conducting workplace inspections, audits, and incident investigations.
• Strong root cause analysis and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong presentation, training, and facilitation abilities.
• Ability to build relationships and influence positive safety behaviors throughout the organization.
• Strong organizational and time management skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
• Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
Physical Requirements: • Frequent standing, walking, and movement throughout a manufacturing facility.
• Regular bending, reaching, twisting, stooping, and climbing stairs.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds occasionally.
• Ability to enter production areas and conduct inspections throughout the facility.
• Ability to sit and work at a computer workstation for extended periods.
• Ability to wear required PPE and respond to emergency situations as needed.
Work Environment: • Daily interaction within a manufacturing facility.
• Exposure to industrial production areas, moving equipment, noise, dust, heat, and manufacturing processes.
• Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required in designated work areas.
• Night shift position with varying work hours based on business needs.
• Overtime may be required.
• Must be willing to work across all shifts and weekends as needed to support employee outreach, training, and EHS initiatives.
Supervisory Responsibilities: • This position does not have direct supervisory responsibilities but may provide training, coaching, and guidance to employees regarding EHS policies, procedures, and compliance requirements.
