Description POSITION SUMMARY Under the direction of the Center Manager, the (Infant & Toddler) Care Giver is responsible for direction and overall supervision of a group of infants (6 weeks to 3 years). This role performs activities that ensure the health, safety, involvement, and creativity of each individual in the group. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Supervise and monitor children at all times. Participate in regularly scheduled team meetings to plan for and deliver collaborative services. Work in a cooperative, respectful, and constructive way with co-teachers, other center staff, and parents, in order to maintain an environment that supports the socio-emotional development of children. Develop and use lesson plans and promote the social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development and individualized goals of infants and toddlers in classroom activities. Demonstrate knowledge of how to support high quality learning environments in a center focused on children's individual needs. Monitor and report child abuse or neglect. Assure accurate and point of service meal counts. Support development of healthy eating habits for children and families through modeling, education, and encouragement. Assist in preparing and serving food to children. Performs similar job-related duties as assigned. WORK ENVIRONMENT This job primarily operates in a classroom environment, with some duties also being performed in a kitchen or bus. The role sometimes uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. The noise level in the work environment may be moderate to loud. PHYSICAL DEMANDS While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear; stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; kneel or sit on the floor; lift approximately 40 pounds; ride on a bus; and move quickly from multiple positions and levels. This position may involve some exposure to communicable diseases. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position. POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK This is a full-time position, and days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. unless otherwise approved by the Executive Director. TRAVEL Occasional local travel may be required for training / job requirement purposes. Qualifications QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or comparable credential and have been trained or equivalent coursework in early childhood development with a focus on infant and toddler development. Experience working with infants and toddlers. Must participate in professional development training including basic first aid and pediatric CPR certification as required by state licensing. SKILLS AND ABILITIES Ability to pass a criminal history background check and submit to an initial physical drug screening and annual Tuberculin test. Ability to communicate in English (both verbally and in writing). Must have strong verbal organizational, and interpersonal skills. Must be physically able to interact with infants. Strong interpersonal, communication and organizational skills; great problem solving and time management skills. Ability to follow directions and take initiative. Ability to work collaboratively with parents, other staff, and community partners in the provision of high-quality services to children and families. Ability to relate sensitively with children. Ability to keep all information strictly confidential. Must exhibit an understanding of the importance of parents and parent partnership in the child’s development process. Must be knowledgeable of child abuse and neglect indicators and report suspected child abuse according to state regulation.
