    "description": "<h2>Overview</h2>\n<p><strong>ABOUT THE POSITION</strong></p>\n<p>VHB’s Portland, Maine office is seeking a<strong> Geomatics Survey Crew Chief</strong> to join our Maine Survey team. VHB will consider out of state candidates willing to relocate with the right experience. Project work will be located in Maine, primarily in the transportation, energy and land development industries. Check out VHB’s Geomatics service page to learn more about this team and our capabilities! </p>\n<p> </p>\n<p>This position requires regular outdoor work and travel. Travel would generally consist of extended field work and overnight stays spread across remote areas of Northern Maine and New England. This position is per-diem, working on large scale surveying projects.</p>\n<p> </p>\n<p><strong>Responsibilities</strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li>Supervises members of the geomatics/survey crew </li>\n <li>Guides and redirects geomatics staff to stay on course with budget and schedule</li>\n <li>Formulates workflow plans to complete various types of geomatics projects based on instructions provided</li>\n <li>Oversees field operations surveys (e.g., boundary, topographic, control, construction, ALTA/NSPS, engineering, As-Built/post construction, reality capture) </li>\n <li>Analyzes and interprets public records research (e.g., deeds, plans, other pertinent documents for the project)</li>\n <li>Supervises operation of data collection systems (e.g., manual and robotic total station, digital and auto levels, GPS instruments, reality capture equipment) </li>\n <li>Ensures accurate layout and measurement of land surfaces</li>\n <li>Ensures proper maintenance of equipment and vehicles</li>\n <li>Communicates with the public as needed</li>\n <li>Documents all phases of work through field notes, daily reports, and other project documentation</li>\n</ul>\n<p><strong>Skills and Attributes </strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li>Thorough knowledge and extensive experience in the field using surveying equipment (e.g., GPS instruments, manual and robotic total station, reality capture equipment)</li>\n <li>Experience using various survey and/or reality capture software</li>\n <li>Solid knowledge of geomatics mathematics (e.g., fundamental geometry and trigonometry) and geomatics data collection principles, practices, methods, and procedures</li>\n <li>Proficient in reading and understanding engineering, architectural and structural drawings</li>\n <li>Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills</li>\n</ul>\n<p><strong>Qualifications</strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li>3+ year of progressive geomatics/survey crew chief experience in leading and supervising field crews.</li>\n <li>5+ years of geomatics/professional land surveying experience preferred.</li>\n <li>High school diploma or GED.</li>\n <li>Degree in Geomatics, Survey Engineering, or Engineering preferred (education may substitute for experience)</li>\n <li>Experience with AutoCAD, Civil3D desirable, but not required</li>\n <li>Experience with Microstation, Inroads and OpenRoads desirable, but not required.</li>\n <li>Experience with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) desirable, but not required.</li>\n <li>Must have a valid driver's license.</li>\n <li>Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.</li>\n <li>Must be able to travel and stay overnight for assignments on short notice, at night, and/or on weekend shifts, and potentially for extended periods of time throughout Maine.</li>\n <li>Ability to endure harsh outdoor environments in uncomfortable/extreme temperatures, inclement weather, and remote locations.</li>\n</ul>\n<p><strong></strong></p>\n<p> </p>\n<p><strong>Building what’s next, together.</strong></p>\n<p>Our people make the difference.
