Description
Essex Junction Parks & Recreation is seeking a friendly, organized, and customer-focused professional to serve as our Customer Service Specialist. This role is the front line of our department, supporting residents, participants, and visitors while helping ensure smooth day-to-day operations.
The ideal candidate brings a positive attitude, strong problem-solving skills, and a willingness to assist the public across a variety of needs. At times, this individual may work independently in the office, handling customer transactions, answering questions, and keeping operations running smoothly.
Pay/Wages
The pay rate is between $20.05- $27.18 based on experience.
Benefits (this is not a comprehensive list of benefits) 3 weeks paid vacation to start. 14 paid holidays 18 sick days per year Retirement benefits include a pension plan (VMERS C) or deferred compensation plan (VMERS DC) , and the ability to contribute to a 457, Traditional IRA or ROTH Generous health insurance benefit in which the City pays 94% of the premium for medical and the first 80% of the deductible. After that, you are only responsible for the next 20%, which is not more than $600 for single plans and no more than $1200 for all other plans for covered medical expenses. 100% employer paid for dental and vision 100% employer paid short-term disability and life insurance Qualified Employer for Public Service Student Loan Forgiveness Program What You’ll Do Provide high-quality customer service in person, by phone, and via email Assist with program and event registrations, facility passes, and memberships Help customers navigate online registration systems and household accounts Process daily transactions, receipts, and postal mail Maintain accurate records and support administrative needs across the department Work closely with the Business Coordinator to balance receipts and support financial tracking Assist with recreation software updates, program listings, and registration setup Manage facility schedules and support reservations Serve as a point of contact for vendors and contractors for park and facility needs Communicate with internal departments, staff, and the public to ensure smooth coordination Provide backup support for Business Coordinator duties as needed What You’ll Bring Strong customer service skills and a commitment to providing a positive experience Ability to communicate clearly (written and verbal) with a wide range of audiences Strong organization, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize tasks Comfort working independently and exercising sound judgment Proficiency with Microsoft Office and general office systems (experience with RecTrac or similar systems is a plus) Ability to handle confidential financial and personnel information with discretion Flexibility to work varied hours as needed Valid Vermont driver’s license with a good driving record Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent Coursework or experience in office procedures and customer service We also welcome candidates with equivalent combinations of education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications Experience in municipal government, parks and recreation, or a related field Two years of experience in administrative support, recreation programming, or a similar role Additional Requirements American Red Cross First Aid and CPR certification (or ability to obtain) Why Join EJRP?
